SuperCrew to SuperCab pickup

I currently have a 2016 F150 SuperCrew with the 5.5’ bed and the 2.7L twin turbo. It’s been a good truck and I do like it, but now that the kids are grown it’s me and the wife in the front and 95% of the time no backseat passengers other than our two labradors…

I’m thinking about getting a newer F150 with the SuperCab and the 6.5’ box ( and maybe would like the 3.5 Turbo). I currently have a shell on my ‘16 and would put one on the new truck to. The 5.5’ bed does not let me really create a bunk or bed back there for truck camping.

Anyone go from the SuperCrew sized truck to a SuperCab/ extended Cab type truck and regretted it??

Thinking about going the opposite direction have a supercab, adult sons want me to buy a supercrew. Occasionally have rear seat passengers who really dislike sitting there. Normally have dogs there who are fine with it. If you have grandchildren in the equation, childseats wont fit. Ordered the supercab 6.5 for maneuverability. Supercrew adds about a foot to the length. Have a topper and 2 full size camp time cots will fit in the back with about 6” between the cots. Sleep very comfortably with a 3” memory foam mattress on the cot. Mine is a 2020, my ford sales rep told me to never get rid of a precovid truck, says quality has gone in the dumper.

I have a super crew. The back seats have never been sat in. Its nice for hauling a lotta shit. But a supercab would be just fine with me.

Hell everything else that I have owned has been a single cab. Kinda fond of those

I had a Supercab 350 and now have a Crew Cab 450. Obviously, the Crew Cab is much nicer for passengers. Otherwise, I rarely if ever use the Crew Cab. It is handy for two dog kennels.

I think it's a good idea to go with a 6.5 bed if you will use a topper. Another idea is to use a over the cab camper like a Fast Camper and keep the current truck.

I have a tundra double cab (smaller cab, 6.5’ box) and wouldn’t buy a half ton with a 5.5’ bed. Child seats do fit back there just fine. I have two car seats in mine now ages 6 and 2. I’m 6’3” so have the driver seat back a ways as well. As far as adults sitting back there….they fit. Won’t says it’s spacious, but it works out. The longer bed let’s you sleep back there, haul more and they look better.

Same. Plenty of room back there actually! And that 6.5 ft bed is nice.

Yup, mega regret. Went from a crew cab F150, to an extended cab GMC. I cussed and cussed and CUSSED any time I had to put ANYTHING back there. Hardly ever wanted space for people, but I hated that there wasn’t ever enough room for duffel bags or anything. On top of that, the road noise was considerably more in the extended cab. We did it for financial reasons, but I was grateful to move back to a crew cab this April when I did.

Plus, the extended cab will be much harder to get rid of down the road when it’s time, and it’s resell value is lower.

Never again…

Never had a full cab but my 2007 F150 with supercab seats two adults just fine even for couple hour trips and three adults in both front and back for short trips. I can also put space efficient rear facing car seats in behind the passenger seat as long as the passenger isn't super tall and normal car seats in the other slots. No problem at all.

Not sure if the cab has gotten smaller in newer models or everyone else here is chaffeuring 6'10" giants around only?

I'd never buy a truck with a 5' bed. What'd be the point? My subaru forester can and has hauled more stuff

Keep the truck and get a pop up truck camper. I have several crew cabs and once rented an extended cab. The stupid rear suicide doors really bugged me when accessing the rear.

Just fyi, many normal popups can be very heavy, so do look into how much they weigh.

This is interesting… I was wondering if quality had slipped at all. My truck has 141k on it and no loan so that’s nice, and I’m the original owner and have always done 5k mile oil changes. Knock on wood I haven’t had any major issues with it yet .

Why not get the 6.5’ bed in the crew cab? That’s what I’m planning to do when I get rid of my Tundra.

Thats what I have now. If I wanted a shorter bed I'll drive my tacoma.

Be warned though. supercrew/longish bed takes about 10 acres to turn around. It really amazed me at how bad the turning radius is on this POS.

Going from a v8 tundra to the ford would be a step backwards IMO

I have had 3 Crew Cabs F150, F250 and F350 dually. I do not think I would have a super cab. There is much more room for storage or whatever with the Crew Cabs. Always get the longest bed you can find. I have never understood the 5.5 ft beds. You can not haul anything and your always wishing the bed was longer. My F250 I had a shell on it and loved it. The F150 & 350 I have the backflip folding covers on them. Next truck will have a shell with the decking and drawers.

The Tundra is a 2012 and has 160k miles. In theory still has a bunch of life in it but lately it’s developed a shake that has been expensive and frustrating to track down. I’m about out of moving parts that can be replaced to correct it and so I’ve been weighing my options

I have a 2014 F150 supercrew with 6.5’ bed and cap. It’s just me as I’m single. There’s no way I’d ever give up those four doors and rear seat/cargo area. Fold the seats up and there’s so much room. I’ve had standard and supercabs prior. Never again.
