Who are you guys getting strings from? Seems like on the archery forum(AT) everyone is a bow string maker and prices vary from 60-120 for a set of strings. Ive never replaced strings before and want to get some made in tan/orange. Are their any companies/builders to stay away from? Whats the usual price?

thanks in advance.

I had JBK on my last bow and plan on picking up another set from him soon for my new bow.

There are a lot of good string Builders (and just as many to avoid). STRICT9 gets the nod for me...never had a peep rotate or had to re-serve and cams stay synched. Best of all, jeff will install brass speed nocks nocks. Alot of Builders cry liability with brass.... even though I have had 2 "safe" tpu's fly off and never a brass nock.

Plan on 80-100 bucks.

I've never had a bad string my by a custom string maker. Winners Choice was my first but others have been just as good. I still have nite mare over the Zebra twist... they rotated daily.

From AT I've used Bucknasty, 60x, and Proline. All three were great string sets. The Proline set has held up the longest.....not sure why, they're all 452x material that I've used. Winner's Choice were the worst set I've ever put on a bow. My Freak came stock with America's Best and they've been fine too. All of the above except for WC were right around $50-$60.

These are the two I like best ...Ex wolverine( Tom park and sons archery) and Brethren

I have also installed strings from BSD, 60X, mike (catfish), JBK . And they looked good, do t know how they held up. I have seen good and bad from winners choice lately...more good then bad honestly.

I like Parknsons strings. They have been the best for me of the custom strings.

Ones I would avoid, Winners Choice, Vapor Trail, quality issues with both. Breathn and Strict 9, communication problems, long waits with both.

I got my last set from Twisted X. I had them in about a week and they have been great. I believe they were around $100 (would've been a little less without the pinstripe) and this was for a prime so it was a 5 piece set.

I'm not sure if he ships at this point but my last two sets have been G-strings from xXx archery in Rainier, Oregon. Nothing but impressed by them.

I've been using a VaporTrail, but it's ~2 years old on my Synergy. Jeff Martin and jmez says the quality has gone down though. My Winners Choice kept rotating so I replaced them within a month. My next string will probably be a JBK.

I think strings are really subjective. I've used to make my own, but I'm just too busy now and don't mind paying for it, so I've asked this question before and I got the same thing. "These guys are great, these guys suck." And then in the next post, and equally reliable source saying the exact opposite. But I think it's either hit-or-miss or it's that you just get a lemon every now and then. However you want to look at it. I've never used Vapor Trail, but a buddy down the street got a set that I installed for him and they started to stretch and the serving came off in a week. He emailed them, they sent him a new set and he's a year into the second set with no issues. I've got Winner's Choice on my bows now and they've been just fine. You can pick colors online. In fact, I ordered a set and the green I ordered didn't look the same when it got here. I emailed them and they sent me a new set with a better color. I've been happy with them. With the string industry being so hit or miss, I'll probably just get back to making my own again.

I think you nailed it which is why guys need to stay away from the bigger companies. The small custom guys are not shipping junk you have to send back. It just doesn't happen.
