I get them from 3 sources, I, myself, me I make my own LOL. Look at the smaller one guy operations such as xwolverene , these guys, because of their small operations usually make better strings than the big operations which lean to quantity over quality.

My experience with WC was a while back. 4 shots and they never rotated after that...sounds like they dropped off some and are pricey compared to others. Steve Smith (270) 339-4634) built the last ones I got for a bow notorious for separating servings and his did not even threaten to separate. Perfectionist and a good guy too.

I've installed more string sets than I care to count over the last eight years. I've installed from pretty much every big company and quite a few of the smaller companies. I've seen crap sets and good sets from them all. Just because it's a big or small company doesn't make them immune to mistakes. I think what quantifies a "good" string is different for everyone. For some it's price. Others it's fancy colors.
For me I look at them a bit different. First I want the lengths correct with the proper amount of twists and the correct number of strands. Second good tight serving with quality serving material. That includes loop end and center serving. Also correct serving lengths and size. Too large of center serving can cause tuning issues. Now how they perform is going to be a combination of material and construction processes such as how much tension they're made under and prestretched at. Something you should be able to ask your preferred builder.
I personally just like a one colored string. This way it's one continuous strand from the same spool. No mixing of old material with new material generally. On my personal bows I've had less issues as far as any peep rotation or stretching by doing this.
I personally run Winners Choice on my bows and have for 16 years with no personal issues. Out of the smaller companies that I've installed I like JBK the best.

Thanks looks like I just need to pick one of the guys mentioned and order. Will the shop I have put them on swap all the dampeners and the speed sleeves on my old strings or is that something I should add to my current strings

Depends on the level of service your shop provides on whether they swap them. I always try and leave my old strings intact for emergency purposes. I always install a new peep, silencers etc. on my new strings.

I've tried winners choice wasn't super impressed, had a couple vaportrail Vtx sets that I can't complain about at all, and recently put on a set of 60x in fury material that seem good but only shot a couple dozen arrows
Vaportrail has outstanding customer service and the only reason I tried 60x was due to the dirt cheap Black Friday deals
I will likely try hogwire next

I've had a few sets of 60x and like them and also have bought takeoff new Hoyt factory strings on eBay. Honestly they all have been good, I try to stay around $65 for a full set and replace them each off season.

last set i bought out of the AT classifieds was from Catfish Customs. $50 for the set and he had them to me in under a week. put them on my elite and specs were perfect. shot them in, installed a peep, and they haven't moved since. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again.

i just picked up a used bow out of the classifieds that should be here tomorrow that has Hogwire's on it. i've heard nothing but good things about them as well so will be interesting to compare.

Got some on the way can't wait to get them put on. Do you guys normally re papertune your bow after a string change? I changing the string, new stabilizer on the way and I am sending my sight to spot Hogg to have it upgraded to the two pin indicator.

Yes, you will have to re-tune after a string change.

If you do your own bow work take good measurement notes and it will go faster. If you are using a pro shop for set up and tune then it will be a similar process to when you got it set up previously.

As said you will need to re tune after the change. The strings will settle some after you put them on so I wouldn't even worry about tuning at all until you have shot the bow for a couple weeks after the change. You should then be able to set it and forget it.

I'm kind of with OR Archer on the strings. Honestly, I can't remember the last time I had problems with peep rotation on a set of strings, factory or otherwise. I read about it a lot but haven't experienced it in years. My primary problem with factory strings has been serving durability. My primary problem with aftermarket strings has been length.

After your strings settle in and it's tuned and good to go, I like to mark my cams with a sharpie so I can see if anything has moved significantly.

I used 60x for my first set. Constant rotation and they only lasted about 6 months of light shooting before they were fraying. I contacted them and basically they said "oh well." Never again.

My last two sets have been from Archery Shack strings. Small outfit but great strings and great CS. Have heard great things about Ex Wolverine as well.

That's the reason on my earlier post about the bigger string makers. The bigger the operation the more the quality tends to suffer. I have a few local guy's I make strings for and when building them a string I'm a lot more careful to detail than when making a string for my bow. The small one man operation guy's pretty much work this way too, they pay a lot more attention to customers string than the big outfits.

Catfish Customs for me. Home - Catfish Custom Bowstrings

Mike at Catfish Customs does good work.My last three bows had his strings.

Mike Carter is a Missouri guy that had been doing it a long time. Carters Archery in St Joseph

Tony Cohn in Indiana does good work too.

Question for the shop owners or techs on here. If the shop I was planning on taking my bow to, to have the new strings put on talks shit about the strings you went with when you call to schedule having it done should I find someone else to do it? I went with Hogwire strings.

Not a shop owner or tech but I would go elsewhere any problems will be blamed on your choice of strings why deal with that hassle? Of course if you have total faith in this opinion than get new strings. In archery confidence is everything

I did a lot of research before I ordered the strings and think I made the right choice. Just seemed odd to me.

If he was just giving an opinion respectfully then I'd say take it to them if they do good work. If he was just straight up talking crap with no merit I'd shop around for another place to install them.

Where are you located?
