I'd love to find an arrow that doesn't break when it hits solid rock at 10 yards! You must be shooting aluminum or an exotic alloy!

I use my Trophy Ridge Crush 300's........toughest arrows I've found. I've used the same arrow on grouse for the past several years now. They blow through the grouse and hit whatever is beyond them and into the dirt or rocks and they still stay together.

On the flip side, I shot under a bull this year with a GT Kinetic XT 200 and the arrow buried. When I pulled it out of the dirt and held it up, it was like an umbrella with all the sides of the graphite falling down around my hand holding the nock end. Never seen anything like that before.

Since your title says small game...I brought a slingshot on a deer hunt to pop ground squirrels around camp. Drilled one at around 7yds with a ball bearing. He flinched, appeared to have a $%#% that hurt look, but he didn't die nor seemed any worse for wear. I love shooting ground squirrels, but I actually felt kind of bad. :) I'm sure it would work fine for grouse. Just something to think about if you try for "tougher" game.

I have cricket with the Ruta locura carbon fiber bbl and stock kit. It is unbelievable lite and shoots great for what it is. I shoot the CCI CB's and it quiet with them. I took it on a fall bear hunt and shot all the squirrels I could eat right at camp. On my archery elk hunts it is hard to pass up a shot at a grouse so usually keep a couple judo's. It would be easy for me to get sidetracked and spend all my time small game hunting so I have try to stay focused.

Ive killed a few grouse/ptarmigan with a slingshot with the heavy surgical tube bands...It works but you need to be close and every one I've hit certainly wasn't dead from the initial hit (bodyshots), but i always run up on them real quick to dispatch them....isnt exactly the cleanest tool for the job but it works...YMMV

I've killed grouse while elk hunting, but I would feel horrible if I spooked an elk while doing it. I've passed on a 15 yard shot on a coyote because I had elk bugling and running out of sight.

One old boy talked about some rifle elk hunters who used to stay with him in Idaho. Every night they brought back a sack full of grouse but never could understand why they never saw any elk. Most of the time Grouse are like fishing for me...An activity best done with bloody hands...
