Small dirt bike 70- 80 cc or E-bike

250 4 stroke. Shave the seat and dump your sag down low if your worried about touching. My buddy has fat cats and I always wish I had the clearance of my full sized bike when im smashing my feet on rocks.

I think I’m going with a TW 200
I didn’t read all the other replies but here’s my advice: I’m about the same size as you 5’9” amd 165, and I own both small dirt bikes and a fat tire e-bike. I use both just about equally. It really comes down to what kind of trails/roads you’re going to be trying to access and the conditions (time of year). If you’re traveling motorized roads and just trying to save wear and tear on your truck the motorcycle is the way to go. If you want to go behind gates or on “non-motorized” trails, a class 1 e-bike is the move ( pedal assist, no push button throttle and assistance cuts out at 20mph). Legality of e-bikes is regulated by individual ranger districts so it varies from place to place. E-bike is also much better in snow or icy conditions. You can get studded tires too.

As far as which motorcycle, I have owned a bunch and I try to go as small as possible so if I have to throw it over big blowdown trees or obstacles I can muscle it over. So I run the little XR or CRF 100-125cc bikes with the “big wheel” option (16” rear wheel iirc. I prefer the older carbureted ones without a battery as they only weigh about 140# and you don’t have to worry about the battery dying. Yes, they are small and I look like a monkey jumping a football riding them but they get the job done and are geared low enough to climb all but the steepest trails even with an elk quarter on your back. I had a TW 200 for a minute but I actually hated the wide tires for single track and they’re too heavy to toss around so I sold it. Same with the midsize Hondas like the 230 - just too heavy. But if you’re only going to ride on logging roads the midsize bikes might be fine.
If you want more advice about specific e-bikes let me know as I have tried a bunch of those as well.

I took. Kawasaki KLX 230r 4 stroke this year on a high country mule deer hunt, I was extremely disappointed with the power but we were over 12,000 ft and I think the altitude played a big part in that. I think changing the sprockets to gear it down would help a bunch! We hunted next to a guy that was built about the same as you and he had a little souped up 100 cc bike, but it would really run and he got along good and if he got to a tight spot he could actually pick it up and put it up on a ledge if he needed to

There was also a guy in a Vectra e- dirt bike and that thing was pretty awesome. Light and crazy power

I have two Kaabo Wolf King GT scooters. Ironically, Oregon doesn't classify them as either ebikes or motorcycles, so they are their own entity, which skirts many of the Ebike/Motorcycle regulations.

I’ve used a crf250f and I still was bang pegs on rocks and struggling a bit with my pack touching my balance off.

But depends on how far back you wanna get. If not going far is would lean torwards electrical as it’s quiet, less smell, has plenty of torque during slow speed, and no loss of power at elevation. If you are going more than a few miles I would go gas especially if you need to make multiple trip to haul meat out. Having extra gas at the truck is way easier than trying to charge.

Hello all, after going up some very crappy old logging roads to get to where I get into wilderness areas to backpack hunt I started thinking about getting somthing like a small dirt bike or E bike to keep from beating the $hit out of my truck . Im a small frame guy at 5'7" 160 lbs so with a pack lets say 200-220 at the very most. Any suggestions ? Or experiences ? Thank you in advance. Jason
I would go with a dirt bike, you may have to up to the cc's a little but many brands offer "big wheel" versions of their lower cc models. The E-Bikes have their advantages but they lean more toward short rides favoring silence versus traveling significant distance.

I have a Honda 250f and I bought an UBCO Electric I had an E-MTB and it was too heavy and awkward with a pack. The UBCO has been great and its 2WD so actually handles good in the snow plus 75 miles of range

USFS classifies them as motorized because they have a motor. They are illegal to use on national forest or BLM land, the same as e-bikes or any other motorized vehicle. There are not specific Ebike/Motorcycle regulations on federal land, there are motorized and non-motorized regulations. If you're taking those scooters behind a gate closed to motor vehicles you are breaking the law just as if you cut the lock and drove your pickup.

I'm not sure where you're recreating, frankly, it's none of my business/care. I will tell you the same thing I tell everyone: It's your responsibility to know the legality of your situation. I'm not a lawyer. That being said, cutting a lock is a totally different offence than just trespassing. Trespassing is trespassing regardless of how you do it. There is no shortage of ways for people to use motorized "vehicles" behind gates. closed to motorized access illegally. There are legal ways of doing it, which I hinted at. But I'm not going to spell it out because it will undoubtedly be abused if I were to do so.
