2025 Frank Church rifle elk hunt in Idaho- a report from a resident.

I realize I am too late to the party for a meaningful response to this, but I am having trouble wrapping my head around references to limited nutrition for elk. I just can’t imagine an area with multiple burns and a mosaic successional habitat having forage issues. So what’s up with ID elk nutrition, we’re not talking about endless old growth?

Look up the Idaho Batholith. The soil is coarse-textured, sandy, and nutrient-deficient, largely due to the rapid weathering of underlying granitic rock.
