Sitka kitchen knife

I recently saw that sitka is partnering with James Brand to create an outdoor Worthy kitchen knife. It sounded like a stupid idea to me, but I'm not a big knife guy so maybe it means more to you. I decided to check it out anyway and saw the price was $399. After seeing the price I couldn't help but wonder if anyone is actually going to buy this. What's do you guys think about this and are you going to buy One?

If they were to send someone to my door to sell it to me, and that someone happened to be a virginal buxom non-tattooed brunette woman who had no ability or desire to communicate verbally, I would still probably not be able to spend $400+ on a kitchen knife. However, I would do my very best to enjoy the sales pitch.

If you need a chef knife buy a Misen and pocket the savings.

Any time I hear something like "tough enough for outdoors" or "rugged enough to be in the outdoors" I tend to turn off my attention. My experience in 2023 is it's not hard to be outside and doesn't take a ridiculous price tag or specialized nonsense.

I agree. I feel like any kitchen knife can be outdoors worthy.

I've been using nothing but Misen for 3 years & you'll never convince me there's anything better (and I've used some incredibly high dollar kitchen knives)

Yes, of course many people are going to buy it. Sitka is amazingly good at selling things. Especially very high dollar things (they sell waders for $1,000!). They are going to sell every one of these knives and I'll bet some will end up on eBay at an upcharge. The people at Sitka aren't dummies.

are you going to buy One?
No. But, Sitka never hoped that I would. I'm not in their target market for this product. They care even less about me buying one than I care about their knife.

Victorinox and stop wasting your money.

As (almost) always i default to the bush/lodge cooks in east Africa who sharpen their knives on rocks and produce better meals out of teeny kitchens than most 5-star restaurants.

Meet Jolam, who made the finest steak dinner (Boran cattle from the laikipia plateau) that I have ever had. He is a magician in the kitchen, and a really wonderful guy.
