I've heard that Sierra is having issues with production, and that seems to be the case based on the complete absence of any of their products. Anyone heard what their problem is? I understand that there are shortages of most things at the moment, but they seem to be completely AWOL.
On a related note, I'm looking for 77 TMK if anyone has any. I've got 73 ELD M and some other stuff to trade if desired.

They have been making plenty of bullets. Just not the tmk. I’m waiting to stock up in more and have been shooting Hornady because of it. The last two batches went fairly quickly.

If it gets closer to the season and they still are not on the shelves pm me and I can get you what you need for the season.

@Lawnboi do you know what they have been focusing their production on?
No idea of their focus but Iv seen plenty of stuff I didn’t need. Could have maxed out a card on a lot of the regular match kings and 30cal tmk lately. I think it’s just a matter of time. I think rokslide crashed the 77tmk and tikka 223 market.

I don’t work for Sierra…. If it sounds that way. I’m just willing to send the guy a hundred to get him through the fall if needed.

I'm pretty sure the bullet mfgs have a limited number of production lines and set them up to make production runs, then switch to something else. Naturally they are going to make the most of what brings them the most profit. To me in this market that means if something I want shows up I had better jump on it because I may not see the same product available for another year. In the past month or two some 100 gr .243 GKs showed up and sold out and also some 117 gr .257s. I got some 165 gr .308 TGKs a week or so ago. It sure does seem Sierra is having a very hard time getting product to market, whereas Hornady is doing a much better job. I've been waiting almost 2 years for some 140gr TGKs in .284. Nosler also is not doing well at all as far as the reloading market goes. Just try to find some Accubonds.

Right when the pandemic started causing supply chain issues and components got scarce Sierra announced their plans to produce an ammo line. Plus their parent company picked up Barnes out of the Remington bankruptcy. It makes me wonder it they are having problems managing everything they have going on.

I contacted them about 100 gr .243 PH bullets.

Was told they had started to manufacture hunting bullets again and it might be more than a year before those were available.

Im noticing the smaller shops, sporting good stores are getting products delivered. When I asked one Manager last week how is he keeping stock he replied " due to us not being a big chain we are getting regular deliveries"

Same guy said he thinks the big stores get the same amount but spread thinner.

I dont think anyone really knows.

Has anyone contacted Sierra and asked when they plan to run more 77tmk?
I have called them a few times over the last year and their typical answer is "this information is not available to me", or "most of our attention is focused on our most popular offerings".

I saw a couple of boxes of 500 in a store the other day. Cal Ranch in Rexburg. Can't remember if they were TMK or SMK though.

I have seen the 77gr smk 500ct boxes regularly in multiple “smaller chain” stores over the last year but only a handful have had 77gr 100ct boxes of tmk’s.

Most ammunition or component manufacturers are making longer/larger runs of common offerings. So instead of machine changeovers every day or couple days if the material is there they will run 1 offering for longer. Also...try to remember that especially large retailers have HUGE back logs on orders. So when a shipment is sent it more than likely is not hitting shelves. Many companies are a year + backlogged on offerings.

Many of the supply chain issues also have not shut down production but caused companies to shift production to other offerings. X amount of copper makes 100,000 30cal bullets or 200,000 .22 cal bullets they may choose to run the then .224 cal etc.

I believe some of the issue is military contracts. Hornady might not have much of/ or any contracts.
Federal is loading 77gr TMK. They might be getting the vast majority of the production.

Military production comes off of separate lines/ facilities than civilian production. That's not the reason for the shortage. People are snapping stuff up as soon as it's available, buying enough to last through for who knows how long. Manufacturers make way more money dedicating those bullets to ammo production than they do to reloaders. Reloading market is way down on their list of priorities.

I'm glad you know exactly what they're doing. The guy I talked to from Sierra didn't tell the same story. Thanks for clearing it up.

I've got a few I'd trade. 1 77TMK for 2 75gr ELD-Ms.

Think I have ~150-200 of the 77 TMKs.
