You’re welcome to call the Tampa, FL main hub by the airport, Odessa, FL hub, or Clayton GA and ask the post masters at those locations. They’re all familiar with it.
NothingI love pirateship, but it's really not an appropriate tool for shipping a firearm. Approaching 24 hours now, has the tracking shown anything?
You wont find anywhere in state/fed law that says you have to declare its a firearm when shipping uspsYou’re welcome to call the Tampa, FL main hub by the airport, Odessa, FL hub, or Clayton GA and ask the post masters at those locations. They’re all familiar with it.
Absolutley, It is pretty simple. box it up with required paperwork, insure it send it. No markings (Firearms etc) I always take to counter and get tracking right there. You wont find anywhere in state/fed law that says you have to declare its a firearm when shipping usps
Not on ATF … not on USPS…
Exactly what I do … never had an issue. Several years ago they would ask what it was when doing insurance.Absolutley, It is pretty simple. box it up with required paperwork, insure it send it. No markings (Firearms etc) I always take to counter and get tracking right there.

Implied?? Maybe .. but not law. FactYou do have to declare a firearm and you don’t know WTF you’re talking about. The very link you posted has conditions on it stating that they may inspect it to verify it’s unloaded and that you may have to fill out a statement saying as such. You absolutely have to tell them it’s a firearm and what type.
If it's implied but not explicitly stated -- why chance it?Implied?? Maybe .. but not law. Fact
Nothing to chance …its clearly not a violation of law.If it's implied but not explicitly stated -- why chance it?
I was concerned about the hazmat tooThere is no requirement to declare a rifle at USPS. The Mailabilty requirement only applies to regulated firearms. It says so right in 432.1(e). The typical bolt action rifle, shotgun, etc, is not a regulated firearm.
And, what would be the point of having no markings indicating the contents is a rifle, if USPS then requires you to declare it is a rifle?
Also, an unloaded rifle is not Hazmat material. And, checking the package as containing Hazmat materials, without you being an authorized hazmat shipper could very well cause problems.
would that number change your mind?Any serialized firearm including long guns is a regulated firearm under federal law.
You can ask literally any post master across the US and they will tell you that you have to declare a firearm.
Just out of curiousity, many guns do you two experts ship per year?
You dropped off a package worth more than $3 without getting a post office scan receipt? And now you are asking where you went wrong?I sold a long gun and shipped it to an FFL myself, following all of the protocols to the best of my knowledge. In pirate ship, I checked hazmat as it states for firearms, added signature confirmation, and insured the package.
I then took it to the post office near my work and dropped it off on lunch. There was a LONG line and only one employee. She asked me if I already had a label printed, and I said yes. She instructed me to leave the package on the drop off area with all of the other packages. (A fairly large pile.)
I did so, and have been checking tracking since, and the package has not been scanned. The buyer isn’t happy with me, though I feel like I followed the book.
Am I overthinking this? Where did I screw up? Help?

Maybe I dont want everyone to know, standing around me in the post office, what im mailing?
As if I trust any of these employees.
….. other than licensed dealers. Here you go genius. Federal law actually states written notification which is why they now require the affidavit to be filled out. You just admitted to breaking a federal law.
You can go into any post office and look at the posters on the wall and they all state the code and that you must declare anything that is perishable, hazardous or potentially dangerous. You 100% absolutely positively HAVE to declare a firearm when you’re shipping it it through USPS, UPS, or FedEx. It’s federal law.
Listen here jail house lawyer… maybe quoting laws isn't your game? I know maybe we’ll have a spelling contest. Here you go genius. Federal law actually states written notification which is why they now require the affidavit to be filled out. You just admitted to breaking a federal law.
