Senate vote public lands sale

Supposedly, a lot of BLM land in La Plata Canyon just West of Durango is on the chopping block for sale as mining interests as well in this updated version of the bill including 3 million+ acres in 11 states.

Another provision in this bill that should be of particular concern to anyone concerned about anything is the following:

Section 70302

This section, titled "Restriction on Enforcement," aims to limit federal judges' ability to use contempt of court to enforce compliance with court orders. It would prevent federal courts from issuing contempt penalties against officials who disobey certain orders, such as preliminary injunctions or temporary restraining orders, particularly if the party seeking the order did not provide a financial guarantee or "security". The provision requires plaintiffs to post a monetary bond to enforce contempt orders, which is an uncommon requirement in cases against the government. Critics argue this provision could undermine the judiciary's power to enforce its rulings and address defiance of court orders by federal officials

Deport the 30-50 million illegals that are occupying our country and the housing crisis is solved instantly…
It's really that simple instead they focus on the problem they created and blame something else. DEPORT DEPORT DEPORT DEPORT.

And water. There is none.

What’s your solution then?

I’m not saying that I support this because I don’t, but I understand the issues faced in some communities.

Solution to what? The economy bounced back so quickly after Covid that we had a spike in inflation which was inevitable. Unemployment was the lowest I have seen in my lifetime. Wages were going up because of job competition. We desperately need migrant labor because we always have. We don’t have the labor force to do all of the jobs they do and we never will. If immigration gets out of hand, you tighten up the borders and give amnesty to those already here. That method has always worked well. Mass deportation is not only economic suicide it is impossible.

Some of the estimates i've seen are a cost of nearly 1 trillion dollars and a 20 years timeline to deport every illegal immigrant. Then you're losing 5-10% of your labor force depending on who's numbers you look at (8 million workers or 30-50 million mentioned above?) which comes at a significant cost to the GDP, 2.5% to as much as 5%. Whatever that number actually is, which is pretty significant, about 4% join the military, which would have to be made up for as well.

Curious how many of these absolute hardliners are going to joint the national guard, work a roofing job all week while waiting tables at night and 3 weekends a month. Either that, or start having a bunch of babies they can't afford.

People need places to live, businesses need room to expand comrade.

As for the rest of your nonsense, let’s keep this on a single issue.

Nope, wrong answers all over the place Gila. Inflation rose because the government dumped 5-6 trillion dollars in the economy. The fraud and the grift are unreal. Also we have plenty of American workers we don’t need to import all this labor which is what drives salaries down and makes inflation hurt all of us even worse. Would love to hear about all the guys who got 25-45% raises in the last couple years to keep pace with inflation? I’ll wait. No one has! To live a middle class life in Colorado these days with a family of 4 assuming average costs it’s something like 210k a year… wages have not risen to meet it and saying we need unlimited foreigners is insane they dive wages down and take up housing which in turn drives costs up.

Like I said the urban development excuse to sell off our public lands is not even being debated anymore. Distill the bill down and what is left is an effort to make the tax cuts permanent and get Carte Blanche executive powers by eliminating Judicial review!

Really? A large portion of the land noted is in or around urban areas.

i think this is a big ball of wire that needs to be untangled, just because people aren’t moving into an area at a breakneck rates doesn’t mean a place is dying. Certain places have carrying capacity or should (yes I get mega cities exist and we can cram 12 million people into a tiny area, not sure we should do that everywhere . I think we do have a lot of areas in this country that if they cleaned up crime wise people would go back to them. Western states offer a lot, but also we are water limited. Like I said there is a ton, politically, economically,& socially that go into this question.

I do know for a fact that our public lands are probably the greatest part about our country and to sell them off would be the most dire mistake….

The housing excuse is so lame and false. I’d assume there are thousands if not millions of empty/abandoned homes, buildings and lots across cities in the west. I’d guess the big rust built cities are even worse. If fixing a house crunch is the real need then let’s actual get it done with lands that are already private and developed. Plus you would think owners of undeveloped private lands in cities would be all over getting stuff built just due to the potential for income.

The constant threats to our public lands over the last decade are incredibly bad. Until those that keep pushing them get voted out of power and the rich donors buying the politicians get truly slapped down I don’t see it stopping
