Semi auto shotgun vs pump

I'm looking at a semi auto shotgun Beretta 1301 vs a 9 shot mossberg 590a1 for grizz defense. I live all around em and see them decently often no problems yet. I know, pay attention. However I hike alot with my kids and want the peace of mind. My thought for a pump is a dead round goes click and no need to manipulate to get the next. If that auto loader gets a problem wether a jam or malfunction your getting ran over. What would you all choose? General discussion, want other opinions on the subject. Thanks.

The 1301 is a pretty reliable gun but I think its hard to beat a pump gun if every one knows to cycle it on the shot.

I would go with the reliability of a pump if my life and my kids were on the line.
I’m the opposite. Shot a pile of shotguns, had semis and pumps jam up. I’d take the beretta personally. I would run a few boxes of shells through it before I relied on it for defense. I have never met or seen someone who can run a pump faster than they can run a semi. I have a few semiautos that have never had a hiccup when I’m shooting. I cannot say the same for any of my pumps.

You won't have time to shoot more than once,,,go with a single shot... they're a lot lighter & more reliable,

I trust a good semi auto more than a pump for self defense against anything. The shaking man with his heart about to jump out his throat had better have a lot of time shooting that pump if he's going to get fast accurate hits on target without short shucking it, especially with full power buckshot which has brutal recoil.

1301 tactical is the easy choice here if money doesn't matter. You can get a lot of buckshot in the air in a hurry, especially the low recoil kind.
