I got an invite to hunt near Aberdeen, South Dakota for snow geese on April 1-3. I haven't ever hunted there and am wondering how those dates are for timing? Any advice?

Will be somewhat weather dependent but should be ok on dates. At minimum, you should catch the last 1/3 of the migration with the young birds.

I will say with confidence you are going to hit it right on traveled from the nd border to south of i90 today and just starting to move in

just got done hunting snows today, hunted 3 days down in the south east corner of South dakota, ended up getting 109 birds. endless flocks of high migrating birds headed north today

I’m from the area. Snows are starting to show up now but the first part of April is usually our best luck, more juvies then. We will have birds hang around well into May- first part of June.

It's gonna be close, the weather warmed up quick and ND has almost zero snow left. I saw lots of migrating birds last weekend driving to Bismarck from Fargo.

I get a kick out of the guys saying they are going to jump whole states etc. There are birds strung out down into AR. There will be big groups migrating birds to hunt in SD until at least mid April and small pockets to search for until the end of season. I will be heading to ND in the next couple weeks.

Most everybody panics and charges out to hunt the leading migration of birds. wait a week or so and the hunting normally gets much better.

The golden days were when everyone figured it was over once the peak migration passed and you didn't have swarms of people competing for the little late juvy pockets..

"were"? I still got that goin on in my area. Hell during major migration time I MIGHT see 1 or 2 other spreads in a 20mile radius from us. After the first big push is gone might as well be an alien the way everyone looks at you when you as permission to hunt a field.

They are and will continue to jump my area... we are in a major drought so all of our marshes are dry. We have seen plenty of migrators but haven't seen a single bird in a field yet.

That's awesome. Used to be by mid April there was very little competition in mid/mid south ND. By about 2009 there seemed to be a lot more competition for the good fields. To be fair I don't know if Ive even gone since about 2015.

spot on, the best hunting is when the main migration is over and all the weekend warriors went home. It may take an extra couple tanks of gas to find the juvie pockets but its all worth it.

Any new reports from this week? I just added a magazine tube extension to the Benelli!

I drove to Sioux Falls Friday, back today. Saw a couple small flocks Friday, none today.
