What’s my best option for a cover to fit the Scythe?
Had some issues with mirage at the range this past weekend.

I went ColeTac Baby Python. I called them and asked what the real differences are between this and the Python being the Baby was recommended for rimfire only and found it was 2 vs 3 straps. She recommended the Baby due to the short length of the Scythe. Order a little less diameter than actual so the overlap is less. Maybe a quarter inch. I went 5.5" long and 1.07 diameter from what I see on my order form. But that diameter might be a misprint.

These ones are pretty good if you don't want to diy something. https://www.scopechaps.com/product-page/can-chaps
These weigh almost 5 oz, TK Huntig with fire sleeve is 5.5oz.

Burn proof gear has a great cover, expensive, but only 3-3.5oz and they stay put, and don't give mirage until almost 2x as many rounds as the canchap, I have both on DD entire sti and wolfhunter. Tough finding the balance performance, non slip and lightweight.

I think DIY carbon felt is likely the lightest option (and cheapest) if you're going for weight savings.

I went the DIY route. Using carbon felt, silicon tape, and vet wrap. Cost was $10 and weight is 1.25oz. It can’t be easily removed, however.

What cartridges have you shot the wrapped can with? Curios how many rounds you can shoot at a reasonable cadence before mirage shows up?

The can chaps is great on my Scythe. I can get you the measurements I used when I ordered it if you go that route.. It's a perfect fit and stays put

223, 6.5 manbun, 7mm RM. I can shoot a lot with the 223, the 6.5 will heat up if you’re not taking breaks. The 7mm is good for around 8-10 rounds (no wind). If there’s a breeze, it makes a huge difference in pushing the mirage out of the FOV.

My chap for ultra7 is 4.8oz. I'm sure they'll all vary in length VS weight.

Probably a 3 buckle model vs 2? Those buckles are heavy..

Anyway, i thought burn proof was one of those $300 covers but it looks like they are a little more reasonable. I dont have a cover for my Polonium yet on an AR, do they handle AR level heat well?

Yes mine is 3 buckle. I'm thinking they came down a bit. $200 now. The is the liberty defense cover at like $400! 😲

Another vote for can chaps. Still gets hot - be careful touching it if you’ve been shooting a bit - but no mirage issues.
