Scope Zero Check Thread

5 shot zero check on my Tikka 6CM after ~5 days backpack hunting. 100yds, 1" dot.

View attachment 842537

Stopped after the first 4, dialed down 0.1 and right 0.1, then fired to check. Followed up with another 5 shot group to confirm new zero but didn't grab a pic of that. My best guess on the shift is I had removed and reinstalled my suppressor a few times over the course of the season.

9.75lb Tikka stainless in factory varmint stock, Bartlein #3 6CM 18", Scythe can, Trij Tenmile 3-18x44 mil, UM Tikka Rings/level, all assembled per proper Form method. Shooting ADG brass, Berger 108EH, CCI200 over 40.0gr of H4350 going 2740fps.
What leads you to believe it was your suppressor? Reason I ask is, I constantly unscrew and switch mine amongst other guns and it returns back to zero. Direct thread on mine.

Fair question, I honestly don't know what else it could've been, gun wasn't touched otherwise, load hasn't changed, etc etc. I have noticed slightly inconsistent bare muzzle zero's when I shoot without the can, so I kind of figured it was the same effect going the other way. Then again maybe smaller group sizes are the culprit, though the initial zero group was 10rds. So it's possible this group would have filled in and been on zero had I shot more. Within 0.1 is still close so I haven't worried too much.

Tikka 6.5 CM/RS/Maven 1.2/UM rings reinstalled in stock. System had apparent shift at last check, taken apart, retorqued and nail polished.

First photo 10 shot group, suppressor removed, drop tested, suppressor reinstalled and shot 10 more. Maybe a 0.1 mil shift? Or maybe just shooting enough for a group at 20 rounds ? IMG_7933.jpegIMG_7932.jpeg

3rd photo Master Sporter/Maven 1.2/Warne MT/Tikka rail (I think). 10 shot pre drop and another 10 shot post drop. I left the suppressor on this one (don’t love the idea) for the drops. IMG_7935.jpeg

I’ll attach YouTube links if anyone is especially bored.

May as well do the .308 while it’s out.
Tikka .308, Maven 1.2, KRG Bravo, UM.
Was having magazine feeding issues so rifle was disassembled to fix mag issues (resolved). Suppressor removed for drops.

Today I zeroed the Tikka 223 with my Zeiss LRP 3 that @Formidilosus tested all last year.

This was ten quick shots after bore sighting. I shot those ten and adjusted right 1 tenth before putting it away. That's a .5" dot.

I also fired a couple ten round groups with the 25 CM with different loads from when it was zeroed last week.

Barrel is still not fully broke in/settled in. Once that's complete and velocity is consistent, I'll zero it fully.

Stopped and sent 30 more rounds through the 25 CM today on the way home from work. The rifle has ridden in my Decked drawer for about 100 miles and put in and out of the safe.

This was 15 shots at 100 yards. Based on the last two groups, it needs about .1-.2 mil left adjustment.

30 rds!?!?! That is a crazy group for 30rds. BR level. What's the build?

Edit: I'm dumb, I see the 15rds part now. STILL, that is crazy haha.

Master Sporter Life!

Also, I’m sending a pic you might like.

I was able to get a fantastic deal on a couple Steiner Predator 4s this winter. I could not find any information on them being tested durability wise, so did my own quasi test to see if could trust when.

Steiner Predator 4 4-16×50, Leupold backcountry ringmounts, Weatherby Backcountry 6.5 wby RPM.

I dropped it ten times from about shoulder height (waist high on a normal person) on to my mattress. I dropped it on to the drivers side, but it rolled once and landed right on the elevation turret.

I'm guessing a mattress is way softer than what most people are using, but I'm definitely confident in the set up for my hunting style of set and forget with holdovers out to 400.

Checked zero with the last two rounds of factory 147eldms. Only about 30ish rounds between zero and check but decent amount of use. 600ish miles on pavement. 100ish on ranch/dirt roads in the truck. Strapped to the pack on a packout while rolling the pack under fences. Then a mile or so snow shoe trip through brush and back while looking for rocks to shoot. Tikka 6.5cm, swfa 3-9, um rings, rockstock. 1" dot.

Remounted my Leupold 6-24 Mark4 on a new to me 20” CTR that I’ll most likely be using for NRLHunter this year. Fired 6 before the 10, made one final correction and fired 10 more. It’s a touch low, will likely adjust it before the next 10 round check.

Tikka lite factory barrel 6.5cm, S&B klassik 3-12, on a oem ctr rail in seekins rings. Hornady factory american gunner. Shot off a spartan bipod.

Last zero check was 10/13/24. Since then it has only been carried a day and driven around a bunch as a backup gun.

10 round zero check today with my practice ammo, hornady American gunner. 5 rounds, then got up, stretched, chatted, 5 more. Looks like its still zeroed. 2” dot.
Interestingly, the hornady match 140eldm ammo I shot today doesnt group nearly as well as this.

F!!!!

I'm not sure if I have a zero shift or if it's me sucking. I have in the past had issues with vertical changes in zero due to my sucking.

16" 223 factory barrel with scythe and swfa 3-9 and SM rings, factory stock. All degreased, torqued very tight with nail polish

Initial zero. Off bench with sand bags. Shot to left is called miss

Has been on probably 10 miles of rough roads in case and hiked several miles.

Top bull is Zero check while shooting steel to verify speed.

Bottom bull is yesterday zero check on different trip shooting steel. Another 10-20 miles on rough roads and hiking several miles. I was missing the steel 10" at 650yd very high (0.5mil) and right. Wasn't sure if it was the wind or my shooting. I shot the zero check in a different reset prone position.

Either I was getting really sloppy with my position building or my zero shifted up a little.... Definitely not by 0.5 mil though. So the missing at 650yd was either due to wind updraft or me sucking.

I will have to go back to the bench to see if there's an actual shift. Will update this post after doing so.
