Finally going to dive into the world of suppressed shooting.

Here's what I'm looking at suppressing:

.17 HMR
.22 LR - rifle and pistol
5.56 AR
6.8 SPC AR
.243/6mm bolt
and possibly a .270 win.

What calibers can be overlapped with a single suppressor? I figured one might cover the 17, 22, and 5.56, and another might cover the 6.8 and 243/6mm???? Or does a rimfire use a different suppressor than the 5.56?

I'd be looking at getting two for sure, but maybe three if I need one specific to the rimfires.

Also, what would be your top two choices for each size, so I can do some research.

Thank you.

30 Cal will cover all, but sounds like you need a rimfire and a 30 cal, or if you want to go with 3, a dedicated 223 can also.

My take on it. A dedicated 22 can will not handle the 5.56, yet a 5.56 can will be too large and heavy to be reasonable on a 22lr. Plus it more than likely won't be serviceable, which is needed for rimfire use.

I personally think you need two to three cans to cover your bases. A rimfire can, a qd can that is full auto rated for use on gas guns, and a nice light weight direct thread can for the .243 and .270. I would get 30 cal for both non-rimfire cans, as they are more versatile and give you room to buy different hosts in the future.

A good option if you only want to buy two, is the rimfire can and a Rugged Radiant 7.62. Its qd and full auto rated, so will work well on your gas guns, but is plenty light enough to be used on hunting rifles for backcountry use as well.

I started where you are just wanting one or two to cover my bases. Now I have 7. It's an addiction of sorts.

17, 22 will be covered with a good rimfire suppressor. Most good rimfire cans will be rated up to 5.7x28

All your other cartridges could be covered by one good 30 cal can.

Or you could do a designated gas gun can to swap between the AR's

And a lightweight hunting can to swap between the bolt guns.

Since .277 is the largest caliber in bit of your set ups you're kinda stuck with 30 cal can's. Which is totally fine, but if you didn't have the 6.8 spc, you could have got a dedicated 5.56.

My recommendations:
Rimfire:
OCL titanium
DD road hunter

AR:
Ptr vent 1

Bolt gun:
DA nomad ti-xc
DD enticer Lti

everyone should own a rimfire can. that's simple. but once you get a .30 can that's modular "to cover everything" you're going to realize swapping adapters or parts is less than fun. plus who doesn't like having more toys. expect to get a can for bolt guns (and/or AR10), one for 1/2x28 AR's, and a rimfire can. and then go from there. and if you hunt, you'll want a titanium can for that.

mission creep or somethin....

You’ll want a rimfire specific can as 22lr is dirty so you want one you can disassemble to clean. I’d look at the Dead Air Mask.

A good .30 caliber can would cover everything else you have. I really like my Silencerco Omega but really there are so many good ones you won’t go wrong.

If you’re not opposed to a 3rd can look into a flow through for your AR like the PTR vent or Hux can. You will not like the gas in your face a of a non flow through.

You’ll need a rimfire can and at minimum a .30 all around can. I agree maybe a 556 can would be good too but I haven’t committed to that yet just running 2 30 cal cans

Take a look at Diligent Defense, they have a short and long titanium version of their Enticer model that is a great combo of lightweight, quiet, and reasonably priced. They are a .30 cal. They also make a dedicated rimfire can as well.

I went to Scheels today since they have their $200 tax stamp deal (they're paying it on cans $599 and higher), and I get a military discount as well. I ended up buying 4......TBAC 22 Takedown, TBAC Ultra 7 CB, Nomad Ti XC, and a Sandman X for the two AR's. They said Saturday was crazy and got cleaned out of several that weren't available today.

Will the cans cause higher pressures? I'm already pushing the envelope on a couple loads, might have to tone those down a bit.

You're going to want 3 cans.
1) Lightweight rimfire can.
2) "hard use" stainless can for the 5.56 and potentially the 6.8 SPC, probably need to be a 30 caliber.
3) Lightweight titanium hunting can for the bolts, 30 caliber if you want to include the 270.

edit: Well I guess I should read the thread lol...

Yes the cans will increase gas pressure in your AR's (you may be asking about cartridge pressure but I have no exp with that). I use Superlative bleed-off gas blocks on my 5.56's and on my 6.8 SPC's I use Aero adjustable gas block.

1. Rimfire can.
2. 30 cal can covers everything else.

Do not use a bigger can on 22. 22 is so nasty and the weight just makes no sense.

I’m currently considering getting a 556/223 dedicated can, but with 2 30 cal and a big bore plus all my 22 cans, I’m not sure i shoot my 556 enough to justify it.

Nice haul, I think you done good!

Might get a little more for pressure signs if you’re right on the edge but I’d give er a try first.
