Any of the 338s would do nicely id think.I would do 338 arc
338 arc in AR-15 pistol or 338 fed and 8.6 BLK in AR10 platform.
Bullet choice would matter far more than the head stamp

Do you not wear gloves?
I hunt with a 458 socom SBR. It’s my bear and moose gun. It doubles as my bear protection.
12.5” barrel. I haven’t taken an animal with, but have no concerns. Got quite a few friends that have taken moose and bear with.Would appreciate seeing/hearing about your experiences killing game with that cartridge. What barrel length?
So true. The one thing about hunting with an AR that I noticed. Man do they get cold. I'd probly vet wrap that shit next time I use one.
I started to use vet wrap around my handguard and it has made a significant difference. The one thing about hunting with an AR that I noticed. Man do they get cold. I'd probly vet wrap that shit next time I use one.
If it's just for bear defense, why not bring a more powerful rifle. If it's brown bears, you want penetration. Why run an expanding bullet? Everyone who does shit or knows shit in brown bear country runs either a real rifle, a shotty with non expanding slugs or a pistol with hard cast rounds. Expansion is not what you want. If it's black bears, anything 9mm and up is fine with hard cast bullets. Black bears are chumps.
