I’m looking at a 9.3x62 in a Sauer 100 and found a special edition with Field Ethos. They have made few changes including a very nice grade 3 walnut stock. My question is do you think that this is worth the extra spend ($2700) compared to the standard? Same base rifle is about $1250 on Europtic.

Not sure why this isn’t in the firearms forum…

Only you can decide whether it is worth the extra money. If I was going to spend that much money, I’d spend a bit more and get a fancy wooden RokStok. That’s what I’m doing for my Tikka M690 in 9.3x62.

This is my Sauer 100 9.3x62 from EuroOptic. I didn’t pay sticker price either. Jake takes good care of Roksliders.

Sorry- my first post on Rokslide. It should have been in the firearms forum.
Thanks for the advice. Haven’t seen RokStok before- I’ll check it out.

Off topic but what bullets are you using in 9.3?

I have some PPU 285s, some Speer 270s (great on light-skinned game), some 250-grain ETIPS, and some 185-grain Lapua. I expect the Speers will be my primary bullet, but I haven’t worked up any loads yet. I was supposed to go to the range this weekend to sight in my 9.3’s, but I can’t get out of my driveway.

Gotcha. What do you know about that 185 Lapua on game? I'm really tempted to get that Sauer 100 9.3x62 because I'm continually impressed with my Sauer 6.5 Creedmoor. BUT ammo selection doesn't seem to fit my purpose. I can load the 200 grain prohunter in my Mark X 375 H&H for a cartridge that is easy on the shoulder and incredibly deadly on our bigger swamp pigs. If there was a good analog for the 9.3 caliber then I'd probably sell that Mark X.

Sorry to hijack the thread @Drdenbo316. I don't have any serious advice for you. I would probably swing for the rokstok. I'm having one made right now but I've never used one before.

No worries at all. Just more information about a cartridge that I’m looking at getting. Where I typically hunt both mule deer and elk, shots are usually under 200 yards, so I think it would be a fun one to replace the 308 and then I’d also have a nice rifle that I would be familiar with to take up to Alaska sometime for a big moose in bear country.

I don't know anything about you so this food-for-thought may be off target. But if you do some reading through the various threads in this forum showcasing different cartridges and their effectiveness on game, you'll see plenty of proof that your 308 has you fully covered for bear and moose. On top of that, the recoil of a 9.3x62 is stout and very difficult to maintain accuracy with.

Iknow the question wasn't for me, but I settled on the PPU 285s in mine.
I tried the Prvi, Hornady 286 & Speer 270s.
Best accuracy was the Privis at 2400ish fps but the Hornady was a very close second, although 50-100fps slower. I couldn't seem to get a load I was happy with in the Speers. Oddly though, my 9.3x57 loves them ar 2100fps & I won't feed it anything else. They're hell on hogs!
