You're making a pretty parallel point, from a different perspective.

The distinction between a very vocal and powerful fringe and "the left" in general is a pretty important distinction.

I'm not saying I know the answer, but the general attitude among hunters of "the left is trying to ban hunting" is clearly not actually helping preserve anything.

Actions like @Howl For Wildlife is helping facilitate are.
Yes the broad stroke that the “left is trying to ban hunting” is a little broad but in Co, it is true. Every politician that has introduced or backed legislation to outlaw or limit hunting & trappings which is effectively banned here, has been from one side of the political isle. If it looks like a skunk and smells like a skunk… pardon me for calling it such. Heck if we had politicians on the right calling for nut job ideas in Co I would be all over them as well… ( like mike Lee in Utah) but we don’t. If we could get more democrats in Co that supported the traditional Co life style and made me feel like I wasn’t under constant attack or fear of losing things I would be pretty happy about it, but it seems like we don’t get that.

Yes, it's all come from the left.

But it's not all of the left.

That's the distinction I'm drawing.

There's plenty who are part of "the left" that agree with you/us or at least supportive. Don't alienate or ignore them.

For sure, I just wish they were a bit more vocal or stood up to the “party” more. We do not have enough free thinkers at any level of politics these days which is unfortunate

Ya its so broad that the Executive Branch of the US, aka Biden Administration, has given orders on how to interpret the BSCA, in-turn withholding federal funding for public schools with Hunters ED and are Archery programs.

I guess thats a fake victim mentality.. also

And this is where we need leaders in the Democratic Party to stand up and say hey I’m a lefty but I don’t agree with that! I’ll be over here waiting for it to happen! I emailed all my reps about it and ole “cowboy” “hick” that grease ball, sent the most obtuse political answer about not wanting to teach kids how to use weapons…

Well Washington is one of the wokest states around and they are the ones leading the way in undermining huntings role in wildlife conservation. Every hunter or comment i heard about this issue says conservation should be science based not social science based. The ubiquitous implementation of DEI policy now means that social "scientists" play an integral role in wildlife conservation policy in WA.

Here's your definition of conservation right now in Wdfw draft conservation plan

Conservation – Science informed actions to preserve the health and resilience of natural environments including fish, wildlife and humans, safeguard the intrinsic value of nature, and provide equitable benefits to current and future generations of human and non-human life. These actions include protecting and restoring air, soil, water, biological diversity, ecosystem processes and evolutionary potential.

I bet social scientists are virtually guaranteed to be involved in determining what equitable benefits are. So much for science based conservation.

Equitable benefits is not defined. I can not find a definition of it anywhere within WDFW information. More information about equity in WA can be found at the WA Office of Equity.

I'm 40 and can remember a Democrat president hunting.

The anti hunting people certainly exist, but are a fringe minority.

How many left of center people do you actually know and talk to?
I believe that as well and I've heard various pro hunting orgs say the same thing. So why does it seem like hunting is constantly losing? Because WE aren't making our votes and voices heard. Recently Charles (HOWL) had an IG post where he had asked a WA commissioner why she voted they way she did. She said it was based on PUBLIC COMMENT against spring bear. Not science, not truth, it was comments/opinions. So we can do the opposite if we're willing to get involved. Commission meetings, comment periods, orgs like HOWL, and your state orgs.

"We all have a role to play in protecting Colorado's wildlife. By investing in projects that prevent human-bear conflict, we do better for our communities and keep our iconic wildlife safe. I am so excited to highlight these 14 innovative projects designed to reduce human-bear conflict in communities and keep people and bears safe," said First Gentleman Marlon Reis. "By supporting communities in their efforts to educate Coloradans about how to coexist with wildlife, we can prevent damage, keep people safe, and ensure Colorado black bears live long and happy lives."

Dear Lord help us all! I guess he has never seen a boar maul twin cubs just so he can hump their mom when she comes back into heat… but yeah they live super happy sweet lives with their little happy bear families…

Hey. I want them to live long happy lives.

I just want people to also be able to kill healthy, mature bears.

Not sure where your focus on Democrats is coming from based on what I wrote.

Everyone is subject to societal pressure.

To answer your question, I would refer you to the Buzz Lightyear meme "Everywhere." In fact, if you wanted to build a zoo, you could skip a lot of aggravation and the whole collection of exotic species thing and just build a huge fence of whatever diameter around me.

I deal with lefties almost every day. My all-time favorite (that I can think of right now) is the woman who went off on me for using the expression "Kill two birds with one stone."

Do not underestimate the influence hard-core anti's have on semi-sane people of whatever stripe.

I am sure these far leftists will come around and understand the importance of predator hunting once you all educate them on the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. Especially since the vast majority view America and anything uniquely American as inherently flawed and evil. I am sure they will come around on bear hunting though.

Here is how equitable distribution of benefits is defined in WA 2021 HEALS Act:

"Equitable distribution" means a fair and just, but not necessarily equal, allocation intended to mitigate disparities in benefits and burdens that are based on current conditions, including existing legacy and cumulative impacts, that are informed by cumulative environmental health impact analysis.

So conservation in WA involves managing resources for equitable benefits. That there is how benefits are equitably distributed. So as was pointed on in the podcast, "Words matter".

All you experts in the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation.

How exactly is defining wildlife conservation in the term of equity or equitable benefits in line with the North American Model? The north american model has 7 principles 1 of which is equal opportunity. Equity explicitly means not equal. I'm told everyone understands all that, but the hunters I engage in person about it don't really get it.

And that has even touched on how equity is a social science construct of critical race theory and intersectionality. Those are undisputedly Marxist philosophies. There is no supply and demand economics in a marxist economic system. So value for wildlife by creating scarcity through a licensing system don't exactly fit equity based conservation. Does not seem like a lot of people understand this to me.

Words do matter and with the new Washington wildlife department’s stated policy they have completely removed any mention of hunting from wildlife conservation policy. They are setting up the long, slow demise of hunting in Washington. Are all democrats to blame? Of course not. We have to be precise in our language. Governor Inslee is to blame. He has personally appointed numerous anti-hunters-animal rights activists to the commission in order to create a majority voting block to implement a long term strategy of excluding hunting from wildlife management. We are seeing the exact same strategy from Governor Polis in Colorado. He recently switched out two active hunters/anglers (Hauser, Adams) for two career anti-hunting, animal rights/welfare activists (Beaulieu, Murphy) on the CPW commission. In addition, the Governor Polis completely ignored the recommendations of numerous reputable wildlife conservation organizations in the appointment of Gary Skiba, the designated sportspersons representative. This should be a call to action for every Colorado hunter and angler, call/email their Senator and urge them to vote against the confirmation of these commissioners. Probably need a Howl For Wildlife on this. Has draw some press, links below.

Great information. I appreciate you summarizing that. I guess I am not the only person here that does not see this as uniquely an anti hunting issue. Why are major hunting groups still trying to push equity in wildlife conservation.

Reading your stories about the northwest really makes me appreciate living in Texas…
Texas is turning purple and the people in Austin don't care about the rural way of life at all. Few more years and they'll have enough votes and influence to make changes.

It doesn't matter how "individuals feel." Politics has become, and will continue to be Party Line, period. Democrats will vote for an animal rights activist over a Republican, every time. Republicans will vote for a sell off all public lands over a Democrat, every time.

There is no longer compromise. There is no longer looking at all the issues and taking a middle road. It is D or R. Period. Everyone can stop with the fake clutching of pearls and say it isn't me, I'm different.

I think the whole idea is a fake victim mentality.

Yeah, there's definitely people who would like to ban hunting.

But I've got some VERY far left friends. A couple hunt, a very few are indifferent, and most are interested in our hunts, and want some meat from them.
Agreed. Most people classify me as far left, yet hear I am. :ROFLMAO:

They will never outright ban hunting. Its just plain fear mongering.

A ban on hunting is like a ban on firearms. All they'll accomplish is creating millions of felons.

Just like they will never sell public lands hahaha. Just fear mongering about selling public lands.
