Those look nice but the 39 ounce unloaded weight seems a bit much. My 4" barreled Kimber k6 SA/DA is 10 ounces less than that. Although I expect I could find room in the gun safe for both.

I’m sure my 10mm Glock weighs less too but I still want one.

I had a 3" 629 in the late 80's that I carried when I was a Wilderness Ranger in the Bob Marshall; like a fool I sold it when I moved to Southeast Montana (no grizzlies there).

I carried a dozen snake shot rounds when September rolled around and killed a fair number of grouse with those rounds—shots were up close and the snake shot was effective. Guessing it would do ptarmigan in just as swiftly

I love wheelguns and was handgun hunting obsessed for several years. I’m a .41 Mag aficionado. Smith 57s and 657s and Ruger Blackhawks and RedHawks. My favorite to hunt with is a Ruger Bisley Hunter in 41 mag loaded with 210 A Frames. My favorite recreational shooter is an old 4” heavy barreled Model 10.

I've got enough loaded 41 Mag in the ammo freezer to justify buying one. I need to start looking around...
I wish S&W would put out a combo of the Mtn Gun and their new lever gun in 41 mag and stainless. THAT would make me get out the ol credit card.

Wheel guns are just more fun. With my Diamond D Outdoors shoulder holster, my 6" 629 Classic is very pleasant to carry, and I carry it quite regularly. Killed a big whitetail doe with it a few years back. I'd love to get it out again here in Wyoming to hunt whitetails here in the hills but just haven't gotten to it yet.

I know I darn sure shoot my revolvers way better than my M&P Shield, but that's more likely a "me" issue more than anything.

Just got my 44 Lipseys Mountain Gun today! My copy weighs 37.1 ounces unloaded. Took it to the range this afternoon and ran a couple cylinders, 44 mag obviously stout but quite manageable. I usually prefer rubber grips on big bore revolvers but the stock wood grips are excellent and I will be keeping them.

Living in the Bozeman area, I usually run an XDM 10mm while hunting in Grizz country and a Ruger LCRx 357 the rest of the time. This 44 weighs the same loaded as my 10 with a full mag so it is going to see some time in the field for sure.

Those new mountain guns sure have caught my eye! I don't have any budget for one right now, but they're pretty sweet!

I made it to the range last weekend and shot up some old handloads in the 629. I need to get a bunch of reloading components and restock the boxes.

That said, 357 is more than enough to do the job and that 4" K6s Combat looks like a good alternative to a 4.3" Ruger SP101.

Due to weight and recoil, I'm looking at stepping down to a 357.

I picked up the Kimber after selling my Taurus 44 mag UL Tracker. It was unusable for me with full house 44 mag ammo anyways so I just ended up running 44 SPL rounds in it for hunting and checking bear baits. I'm not sure how much performance I am giving up by dropping back to buffalo bore +P 357 vs 44 SPL but I havent had any deer or pigs notice the difference yet. The accuracy advantage of the Kimber is not to be forgotten either.

Is your LCRx 357 a snubby or does it have the 3” barrel and adjustable sights? I’ve been thinking about the LCRx 3”. They are pretty lightweight and seem like a great gun to take hiking or a walk in the woods I venture into.

I have the 3” barrel, it weighs 23 ounces loaded with five 180 grain BB. You are correct that it is an awesome gun, sometimes I even trail run with mine in a GFI chest holster. The grip handles recoil well for such a light pistol, you can also CC with it. I don’t think you can beat it for weight, power and shootability. I put a green fiber optic front sight on mine and it also rides great on the belt or a HPG kit bag for discreet trail carry.

Good to hear that the LCRx handles the BB 180 well. I have a heavier 357 and have been debating between the 38 3” and the 357 3”. The 38 is a good bit lighter. Although I just learned that there will be a 327 Fed Mag in 3” which also piques my interest.

The first pistol I ever bought for myself at like 20yo because these tards over here back in '92 we're going to change the laws so that I wouldn't be able to anymore until 21yo. And I was a brand-new newlywed with a wife to worry about now, so wanted/needed SHTF medicine in our home since it was LA than WestLA.

I don't carry it in the woods anymore because now I WANT night-sights on any weapon I carry into the woods! AND, I needed to shave-off pack-weight. So opted for G29 and it shaved off 7oz and earned me 4 more rounds while carrying.

This year I'm gonna instead try carrying the P365. It takes weight down even More... for same round count. And out here in SoCal? Don't think I'm giving up much dropping it down to a 9mm Lehigh Extreme Penetrator vs a 10mm one, in terms of the normal sizes I've seen of critters out here.

Some of those places like Pennsylvania and such where they have 500-700Lbs black bears? That's a different story.

Love those old Security Sixes. One of my first handguns, bought way back in the seventies, is like yours, but with a six inch barrel and larger aftermarket wood grips. Pull had a hitch to it when new; stoned the trigger and it smoothed right up.

My "mountain arsenal" in terms of pistols.

Ruger MKIV 22/45 Lite with Burris red dot for grouse, squirrel, and general plinking.

Glock 20 for obvious uses. I rarely carry it these days because something's funky with the ejector and it'll stovepipe 1 round in 10 so I don't trust it. Need to get it to an armorer.

Ruger Super Redhawk 44-mag with 7" barrel and Pau Ferro grip. The barrel is kind of insane for self-protection but at one time I was thinking about getting into pistol hunting and this felt like a good multipurpose option to start with. I never did that, but still love the gun.

Naw man, this one? From day one has had SUPERB Single-Action trigger pull! The hammer pull by thumb is nice and smooth too! You could tell that somebody had shown it some love already (I bought it used).

Yeah bought that one, than when I could, I went back and bought a Model 60 3" .38spl +P for the wife. A new one.


Proud to say my Security-Six has introduced a decent number of new shooters to the sport!
