I’d love to see a good test of this.
Not a test, but a strong anecdotal reaction. Probably not worth listening to the entire podcast to hear it ... it's somewhere near the end, if I recall correctly: https://www.podbean.com/ew/pb-gcucm-17b5338

What stood out to me is that this reaction/assessment was from someone who shoots a lot in field conditions, and has won a lot of matches ... in short, someone who's used to looking for targets in binos. For him to have such a strong response to the clarity of the Pures had me taking note.

So are these still the best option for rangefinding binos if one is in the market?

I couldn’t tell you. Mine have been back at Gunwerks since November after they quit ranging past 450 yards in the middle of an elk hunt.

Good thing I brought my Leica 3500.com hand held as a backup.

Yeah I’m bitter not only for the dumping on me during my hunt but also for them killing the resale value by dropping the price $1k.

As to glass, I think I mentioned it in my previous post, but I thought the glass was pretty dang mediocre at best in them. My guide was seeing antler points on bull elk at +/- 1/2 mile when I couldn’t even tell some were bulls.

@ElPollo re: vector wind... I'm pretty green on wind holds, but I use the wind feature just to remind me how many mil/wind number. I'm still memorizing the percentages for the clock position/angles too. That helps me keep in mind that the Kestral 2500 only tells me what going on at the firing line.

I held off due to the the issues reported here, plus someone confirmed that they are planning to release and updated version.

I picked up the gen 2 Sig 10k's and couldn't be happier. The app with OnX integration and snappy powerful laser with quick ballistics and wind input... couldn't imagine a better setup. I spend most of my time behind other glass, so the clarity isn't a top priority for me.

They are, soon if I remember correctly.

@Mike D Texas: Am guessing this won't make you fell better about it, but at least there's now context ... very common for manufacturers to sell out the end of a model before an upgrade.

I try to bring a mix of stoicism and optimism to this - rather than thinking "is my X dollar item now only worth Y", I think "If it was worth X *to me* before, then sure it still is". If I can afford to upgrade, then I now have a "better" option to be thankful for. If I can't afford to upgrade, I personally try to just be thankful for what I have.

Overall, I think these kinds of upgrades also allow a lot of new and less-well-off people to get into hunting, better gear, and so on - look at what all of the cheap LRTS/LRHS scopes did for having reliable scopes in backcountry hunters' hands when Bushnell closed them out ... and so on.

In my case, I'm likely to not be able to afford whatever new version of of Revics come out - but I'm a candidate for secondhand options for those who want to reclaim some money and upgrade. YMMV.

Here is a summary of what I found as "issues reported here"...

Post 119 @NevadaMike No Solution in binoculars - Resolved with App update

Post 166 @Thejet Cannot focus (inter-pupillary distance issue?)

Post 310 @huntnful Poor glass quality (backtracked on Post 358) - non-issue?

Post 323 @CCooper Stiff focus wheel

Post 372 @Mike D Texas Stopped ranging past 450 yards (sent back to Gunwerks, no resolution yet)

Post 438 @huntnful Random solutions displayed - Resolved with fresh battery

Post 469 @ElPollo Blue tint in glass - Updated to note that only seen at very close ranges

Yes, but that BDC "shoot to" distance is also correcting for any atmospherics too. Would be nice to just have an option for simple angle corrected distance.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here... @Formidilosus

I thought the BDC "shoot to" option was to correct a BDC etched turret (with it's environmental data entered into the Revic app) with the actual environmental conditions.

Without BDC "shoot to" enabled, you are still getting "simple angle corrected distance"

When I spoke to gunwerks support I asked if there was a way to get "simple angle corrected distance" so I could use the binos for archery. They told me there currently isn't a way to do this, and if enough people requested it, they may roll it out as an update in the future. This was back in June of last year, so I'm not sure how much movement there may have been since then.

Without “BDC Turret” selected, the ranged shooting solution is angle corrected but the presented range is actual slant range?

Correct. Without BDC Turret selected, the shooting solution uses the line of sight range, shooting angle, and environmentals for calculation. The presented range is the line of sight range.

Good to know…I wish their manual would spell that out better
