I would add- before we got into Sequoias for the family, we had a 1998 Sienna FWD Van.

Bought it with 108,000 miles.

Sold it with 220000 miles and no major repairs other than fluid maintenance, tires, and brakes.

Buddy has a Chevy 2500 with quigley conversion/ upfitting and it’s a sweet vehicle. Would definitely drive one if it were a reasonable option. Would be my wife’s top choice too probably.
The Astro and Safari vans were very reliable. Not pretty but they got the job done. I tried to persuade my wife into a tricked out van. She shot me down like the Red Baron. Tahoe is what she settled on.

Another vote for a Transit 350 15 passenger van. When 6th kid came we picked up used one for less than $25k. Took out rear row and you have a 11 passenger with plenty of cargo. Has the 3.5 eco boost and can haul a good size trailer. Kids have lots of room, can haul friends around, and there are companies that will convert it to 4x4 if you want to spend the money. $13-15k last I checked.

If you don't need all the current day gadgets and want a solid SUV that is low maintenance and fairly low cost to purchase, look at the GMT800's. 2000-2006 was pretty much the pinnacle of GM SUV's. GMT800
Around here they are the primo mormon movers, and have seen a few extended with 3 doors on each side.

Our honda odyssey fits 8 pretty well with decent cargo space in the back, but I wouldn't want to do it everyday with that setup. It would be a hassle to get kids in/out of the back when you have carseats/boosters in the middle row. We had a honda pilot previously and I remember the back row being even smaller and having much less cargo room in the back.

If I were you, I would be looking at the Ford Transits. More room for cargo and extra seats when your kids want to have friends over.
