Years ago I developed a wildcat round based on a standard .473 bolt face. This Savage Axis was the original action for the first test shots with it, so once all the testing was done I built it up with some better parts. Even though its just an Axis action, the bolt upgrades, stock and timney trigger really makes it pretty sweet. I'm over my wildcat for now (358 Yeti) and want to throw something new in the action.

After some thoughts, I'm leaning towards a 16.5" 22 Creedmoor. I've got a buddy that turns great barrels and has X-caliber 5r7 and 5r8 blanks on hand. Leaning towards a 16.5" 1:8, but I'm open to other suggestions for this as well. My current bolt gun loadout is 243, 7mm-08, and 7mm Rem Mag.

Changed the title from a question to an answer.

I decided to go with a stainless 5r8 Xcaliber blank turned to a 16.5" sporter profile with a flared muzzle for 5/8-24 threads. I should have it in a week or two!

In the meantime I did some work on the Boyd's spike camp stock that had been meaning to. I rounded the bottom of the buttstock that was very squared, worked in a slight relief for my trigger finger knuckle, and block planed about .250" off the bottom of the forearm that was just extra material.

More about the work I did on the Savage- its got a fluted bolt sleeve, bolt lift kit, extended/ oversized bolt knob, and a Timney trigger. For the mags, I installed a kit to have a paddle style release (kind of like aics but in the front), and an extended base plate kit so I can have one 4rd and one 9rd mag.

The scope is a Burris Signature HD 2-10. Its a sfp/ moa scope but I'll probably stick with it and just figure out my dope for their Ballistic E3 reticle with whichever load it likes.

7.5 would have been optimal , but he only had 7 or 8, and I want to be able to shoot the lighter range of bullets. 80gr is heavy enough, if I need more, I’ll go 243, 7-08, or 7mm Rem Mag
