If GDE didn't make the ecodiesel tune, I would have never bought one. The success rate with the tune has been great though, without it...there have been some problems for sure.
And just in case the other owners here missed it, FCA is giving $3,000 back if you go in a let them tune the ECM. It also gives a pretty good warranty afterwards.

Was hoping to hear from someone with the new f-150 diesel.

Those eco diesels numbers look great but be prepared to spend lots of time in your dealerships waiting room.... mine was in the shop 5 times in a month. Finally had to dump it, was costing me to much down time. Was fairly trouble free until it hit 60k then nothing but trouble. If your not having issues consider yourself lucky, my dealer won’t sell them anymore. I have heard they fair better in warmer climates. ( I’m in mn)

Just curious...the ED series originally suffered painfully because the engine was getting the wrong type of oil. Since that error was corrected (Mfr handbook revised) it seems to have resolved the chronic engine failures others saw. Was your experience more than two years ago? Could this have been responsible for the issues you experienced?

Mine kept throwing a code and going into limp mode, was about a year ago. Was emissions related. They couldn’t figure it out at my dealer, traded it for a hemi. It was costing me to much time.
Would of did the tune but I still had 40k of bumper to bumper warranty.

2016 F150 XLT Crew Cab 3.5 Ecoboost (6 speed) - 10 Ply BFG A/Ts : 17-18 MPG (mostly hwy)
2018 F150 XLT Crew Cab 3.5 Ecoboost (10 speed) - factory delicate Goodyear wrangler tires: 20-21 MPG ( mostly hwy)

Pretty wild what lighter tires and a different transmission do for fuel economy.

2017 Ford F150 2.7 Ecoboost (crew cab, short box, topper) stock suspension.
Everyday == 19-20ish
Highway 70mph or less = 22
Interstate 80mph = 18-19
I'm truly disappointed in the mileage compared to many of the other Ecoboost trucks posted and wish I would have purchased the 5.0 or 3.5.

Averaging 15 MPG most tanks

This is much better than I expected out of a 3/4 ton truck, and to be honest if I keep getting these kind of numbers I don’t think I’ll own another half ton.

2018 Ram 2500 6.7, lifetime average is 17.6 mpg. Just got done doing a trip from the front range to Utah (650 miles: and going over 4 passes along the way averaged a hand calculated 20.2 going there. Hauled a 6000 lb camper back in heavy winds and averaged 13.5 coming back, also hand calculated. I get 20 ish all the time on the highway 75 mph and under. If I upped my Tires one size I lose 2+ mpg immediately, been there done that and took them back off. Nothing robs fuel mileage worse than putting bigger tires on trucks.
