“But he doesn’t think it would have much of a chilling effect on hunting license sales, because previous hikes in the cost of big game tags didn’t.”

Yep they tested the waters and determined that non resident hunters are an unlimited resource so they can pretty much do whatever they want.

Can someone explain…. Last year and the year before they generated a certain amount of money. What changes every single year that causes the need for them to keep increasing their income by millions more from the previous year? I know game management isn’t cheap but does it really increase that much every 12 months?

Probably all the money they keep pouring down the grizzly bear hole paying lawyers.
(at some point the states should just say Fu*# it. We aren't dealing with grizzly bears. If someone shoots a bad actor including a bear eating an elk carcass with a $2000 NR tag on it, let the feds or the bear huggers deal with it.)

Because we can.

And you would think people involved in hunting laws/fees, etc. would learn from their point system failures. Short sightedness only hurts hunting in the long run.

With a big decline in Antelope numbers and reduced tags available for Antelope and Mule Deer those dollars have to now come from somewhere else and they are absolutely correct the non resident will pay it. The market is there, guys and gals are willing and accustom to paying to play these days. What a time to be alive.

The nonresident price absolutely should be increased, preference points, too. If they can increase revenue, it's a win for WGF. If the number of applicants and points buyers is decreased, it's a win for everyone that is serious about hunting WY.

Idaho should do the same with nonresident tag prices.

And start gouging those freeloading youths while you're at it. An elk is an elk. Charging about $1k for those snot nose kids will motivate them to find a good career so they can hunt Wyo one more time during their lifetime

"Gouging" in terms of pricing is a term used by economic illiterates and it's based in feelings and emotions rather than facts and logic.

One could always move to Wyoming to access the resident hunting benefits. Otherwise, why should WGF limit their revenue? There will be a buyer happy to pay.

What we want and what should be are often two very different things.

😢

It costs what they tell me it costs. Please do drop out in protest. It will make the odds better for the rest of us. Y'all can stay home and hunt squirrels or whatever.

Economic illiterates? You might run that back thru your Ai bot again

The entire country bitches about the price of eggs but it's not ok to bitch about a fee going from $15 to $75 right after a tag increase.
I'll keep paying for both. I like eggs and I've lived in Wyoming. I'll stick with my September-October visit.
