A member here private messaged me with great information but it’s not letting me respond, saying the responses are spam like.

I would like to thank that member for the information and hope they are not offended I didn’t respond. I’ve been trying several times over the last couple hours.

You probably could take your own food. Especially if you had food allergies.

My sheep hunt has been my only guided hunt. What I learned while researching and in my experience the outfitter is usually prepared to supply all food once you arrive at the outfitter's location/base of operation, until you leave to go home.
I took along some snacks that I enjoy while hunting but did not take any other food items.

As you talk to outfitters, definitely ask them about food on the hunt

Can you bring your own freeze dried and other foods with you on these hunts? I’d like to avoid being sick from peak fuels. It would suck to spook a ram because I couldn’t hold my farts in.

just getting to hunt in Alaska or anywhere in the north country would be a blessing.

Yeah you’d be fine bringing your own food, just realize it’s a choose your own adventure situation. If you pack light and run out it’ll be on you.

I think this a great thing to talk to outfitter/guide about. They do this day in day out for the most part and have it dialed in pretty good on what works for the majority of hunters. I brought a lot of my own food just because I knew what worked for me. Everyone else in my camp ate what the outfitter provided and didn’t hear any complaints.

Go on some local backpacking trips and try out peak, mountain house, etc and all of your other gear. Such an easy way to remove the variable. Cheap insurance to find out if you love or hate backpacking and also what food and gear works. I shaved well over 5 pounds of “lightweight” gear doing this. It also made me swap some stuff out. When it came time for my hunt I didn’t have a single thought or question about my gear; everything was dialed in and fit etc. Made the hunt much more enjoyable because I wasn’t stressing or questioning that component.

I’m pumped for you. Having the wife on board is probably the biggest obstacle. If you’re worried about committing that cost before even having an idea if you’d like it, go on a backpacking trip out west. You’ll get a decent idea.

Yeah I’m sure you’d be fine bringing your own food, I’d talk to the outfitter and let him know you’d like to provide your own stuff. Which outfitters have you been researching?

I don’t mind whatever food they have on hand but if the sheep are as sensitive as my wife, I’m going to try and bring less gassy food.

Tuchodi River and Arcadia for British Columbia are the two that responded.
Revelation outfitters responded for the Alaska Dall sheep hunt. I tried contacting a few more but didn’t get an email response. I’ve had better luck calling.

Arcadia runs 100% success on 160-175” Cali bighorns within 1-3 days if you can walk 4 miles and shoot 300m. But it’s $120k and he is booked out to 2028 last I heard.

Keep in mind a lot of, if not all of the outfitters are at sheep show this week, then SCi next week, last week was DSC. Then will catch up on emails after the show season is over

Surprised you are contacting Alaskan dall outfitters after everyone here has told you not to. If you have the money to do all these other non dall hunts then you shouldn’t be looking at AK….

Its trade show season so it may take people a bit longer to respond. If you can get out to the Sheep Show next year its worth going.

I contacted Arcadia. They mentioned having an opening next year at 150k.
I contacted revelation before I heard about avoiding Alaska. Also getting some advice stating some Alaskan hunts are still worth it with less hassles and less expensive.
Figured I could do a caribou hunt within the next few years and still be able to save up for a Dall sheep hunt in 8 years. Still sorting out the possibilities after I’ve handled priorities. It’s a dream I’m trying to make come true. A sheep hunt in my future is not guaranteed. It’s exciting just planning it and discussing possibilities here. I really appreciate all the information I’m getting.

If you are looking at 8 years out, better plan on drastic inflation on the price. Go on some western backpack style hunts first, climb a mountain see if you like it before spending $100-$200k on a hunt :)
