Piss Ant vs. Norma at NRL

I'm shooting it tomorrow and will be out there as a RO. I hope it's not your Norma day on my stage, but spotting 80s could be just as fun. It should be a great course.
Oh sweet! See you out there!

Hell yeah have fun with it! Careful though you might become a match shooting addict like so many of us..

My advice when settling on a dedicated match setup is to forget about speed, I've found its easier to spot your shots with a slow ass 6.5 (like a 147 at 2600) vs a 25 cal going 2900 +.
The wind benefit doesn't translate to more hits with the extra speed, I'd look hard at a 6.5x47
I really have no intention to pursue it honestly. Because I really wouldn’t be able to do it half assed. And I already decided I don’t want to make the commitment to do it full assed haha. I work a lot and hunt a lot. I just don’t want another commitment drawing me away from the family during my “down time” lol

My post reads negatively, but that is not my intent. Your setups are sporty and I like that. Hope you have fun out there, although I'm quite sure you will.
I didn’t take it that way! One gun is going to give you a concussion while trying to watch the impact, and the other is barely going to leave a splash worth seeing haha. I know what you meant!

Hopefully for you he shoots the creed. If not this is how I imagine it going.

Southpaw on the radio. “Hey MD”
“Yea go.”
Southpaw “We need a cold range. Target down on stage 27.”
MD. “Was it that huntnful shooting the NMI?!?! That’s the reason we had to eliminate stage 22. He broke the target.”

Aw man. I actually will feel bad if it breaks some target stands. That won’t be my intention at all. I’ll put it away if it does it. I don’t want to cause any issues for any other shooters.

Idk if it’ll break any targets. I could see it knocking a couple off and them having to go cold to set them back up though.

I wouldn’t worry about it. If they are good with a guy shooting a magnum but don’t setup the course to handle it, not really your fault.

What's ironic is that literally this exact scenario occurred at my stage during this match last year. :ROFLMAO: Had to go cold for a while to fix it. Also ironic: it was a 6mm that did it, not a big gun. It's just bad luck hitting the hanging post.

I have friends bringing their hunting magnums, and there were a number last year. Don't sweat it.

Are 17lb rifles common in NRL? I know nothing of the hobby but assumed they were geared more toward hunting rifles?
NRL classes are 12lb and 16 pound rifles. Factory class rifles are up to 12 pounds. If you shoot the skills class, its intended to introduce people to the match format without having to meet all the other class limits. Skills competitors can also be coached during the stage, but they are not eligible for trophies or the prize table.

Thank you!

Ya'll laugh about target finding. Come to the Steel City Safari next year in Alabama...think there were a few stages this year where less than half the field found all the targets!

The hatch with tripod rear will be a killer for anything elevated if you practice it.

You will have fun. ROs are going to love the blast from that Norma.

RO's love it when a muzzle blast vibrates their glass so bad they can't see hits and then get asked by the shooter why impact wasn't called lol

That’s going to be my plan for any seated/kneeling stages for sure!

😅😅😅😅😅

What is the over/under that we see an amendment to the skills division rules next week?

"Skills Division hunters may use any rifle weight or caliber that they choose that does not exceed .30 caliber or 3275fps, OR USE A 7-300NMI"

All checked in with both guns. Pretty seamless process.

It is VERY hard to see the hits at 1000 yards with 22CM. The antelope plate hardly budged at the impact. It went 3/5 in the 15-18mph gusting wind.

The 7-300 didn’t seem like excessive muzzle blast compared to the rest of the guns on the line really. It was easily distinguishable when it hit the antelope at 1000. It went 3/4 on the hits.

I only shot the two guns at 1000 during check in. It was so windy there was no point in doing a zero check at 100. I trust my trijicons 😅
