New rifle - Shifting gears....

Adding the vertical grip to a tikka stock shortens the trigger reach by a bit too and seems to help with small hands, but the cheek risers make a huge difference for getting kids with their long skinny necks properly lined up with a scope.

Howa mini action in 6 ARC or 6.5 Grendel. I’m debating doing this or converting my Tikka t3x Lite stainless 223 to 6 ARC. I’ve killed a couple of whitetails with the 223/77 TMK, but wasn’t impressed with it at all.

Can you change the grips on the compact stocks? It doesn't look like it photos.

My 223 compact is 40” with the LOP spacer installed.
LOP spacer measures right at 1.125”.

OA length with out the LOP spacer would be right at 38.875”.

LOP with spacer installed is just a touch under 14”.

LOP without the spacer would be 12.875.

These measurements are from a Tikka 223 compact with a factory 20” barrel. Non threaded.

Also to add.
Mine has the vertical grip and kills deer plenty dead with 73 ELDM’s.

Thanks man.

Ran the concept (“your own rifle”) by him and he was more than intrigued.

Suppressor paid for. Excited aboit the whole deal. Especially getting this boy involved.

. He’s been shooting the single shot bolt action 22 pretty well but gets bored. Everybody grew up with iron heights. But that little cricket is so short. He’s not doing well with no experience. He’s getting bored.

He’s hitting a dead deer with a peep site 20 yards with it. I think if he can maintain form with no noise in no recoil, we can be shooting beer cans at 50 and 60.

Still trying to consider other carts. Suppressor paid for. Pick up next week. No rifle ordered. Suppressor goes up to 6.5 PRC. Im thinking stick with 223 and catch him placement. There’s a .243 nagging on me. I must subdue notion.

Having bought the suppressor I got cold feet thinking about 350 legend or a blackout, etc.

I think 223 be more fun, (adult) cheaper to
Shoot, and great traditional into bolt for him.

Get him a quiet 223 with a useable scope and he’ll be hitting cans at 200.

Shake up full ones and he gets to see them blow up through the scope. 😁😁

Howa minin6 arc in mdt lss chassis. Have a luthAR stock with lots of adjustment. My 8yo shoots it great. With suppressor and digital scope (so I can see where they’re aiming) it’s so heavy recoil is non issue. If hunting from blind put it on tripod and let it rip

Plenty of good suggestions already but I think any caliber available as subsonic paired with a decent suppressor would be enjoyable for any kid learning the basics. My daughters ran suppressed 22LR rifles from age 7 to 12. Now as teenagers they prefer either my suppressed 357 levers or 300blk SBRs.

10-4

I’m catching a lot of grief from friends.
I’m still thinking high velocity accurate let my kid have fun with the 223+ the suppressor

If you can get good on paper, then I think we’re straight. I’ll be with him in the stand. I’m not sending them often in the woods. I can help him set up.

I wish I could find the 223 compact with a stainless barrel. I can’t.

I’m thinking as quite scope maybe 3 to 10. With 40 mil objectives I don’t know. I’m not sure what l.

Damn kids gonna have the most expensive gun and stable if I keep it up.

I know most people hate blue poles, but there’s that 3 to 10 x 40 mm on a 1 inch

The way I hunt it’s mostly a little bit of walking live truck driving my loopholes at 6:07 worked pretty well.

I’ve also got an old-school VX three might slap that on this gun. It’s aI’ve also got an old-school VX three might slap that on this gun. It’s a 50 though. It makes the whole package get a little bigger. It’s a great scope. It’s probably 25 years old. It’s nice.

I mentioned this whole process to my wife earlier. About getting our son up rifle to kill with, small, white tail, etc..

She was not very happy. She has no idea that I just meant $700 on a suppressor for a gun that’s not bought plus scope plus a gun.
