Been running a Mystery Ranch for several years, but looking at buying a new pack to shave some weight. Was looking at Kifaru, Kuiu and Stone Glacier, but open to options. My biggest concern is a company needing to change every year because they didn't get it right the first time. Not 100% sure but isn't Kuiu on there 3 frame in 3 years?

SG has had some small changes, but it looks like he did what needed to be done during testing. Kifaru looks like they spend more time in the field testing than anyone (much like Mystery Ranch) and I'l probably go with them.

So is this a change for Pdox shortly after introducing the first pack?

We're not making changes, instead we are coming out with new options.

The suspension is where we want it in terms of comfort, weight, and capability.

What we're doing in 2014 is offering a smaller rolltop packbag, offering a rolltop version of the 6300, making side zippers standard (with the option of no zipper), introducing a larger Day Talon, and possible a couple other things we've been working on.

The new harnesses have been shipping for a few weeks. It is the same harness conceptually, just some change to finish details , range of sternum adjustment etc and cut a bit wider. There are no core changes to suspension, just some minor changes to the offering (for instance PALS is standard on hip belts now instead of an upgrade, frame extensions included with an opt out as well).

We are also going to be offering some custom pack bag options. Although, we really like and prefer the efficiency of our pack bags and the water proof materials we use, we will offer some options and alternate materials , or styling as a custom shop (Dyneema, Cordura etc). For instance if you want two long pockets instead of water bottle pockets , then it will be a custom shop. The custom shop stuff will have longer lead times and be a custom quote.

My apologies to the folks at SO--I should know by now to be more precise with my words. The post on your forum clearly states your new options and standard offerings and I was excited to see them.

No worries. I think there was a mis understanding of what we are doing, perhaps based on KUIU changing stuff on their packs so often. I would like to point out though, at least IMO that sometimes change is just being responsive to customers. Change doesn't need to always be viewed as bad, sometimes it is just improvement. We went through a very extensive testing process but still once it is out in peoples hands you see different ways they want to use it than you envisioned and perhaps you adjust to best suit their needs.

I've recently called a few guides in BC and Alsaka and the changes from Kuiu seem to be from frames breaking frequently. So yes, I don't think you guys are changing for the same reasons they are.

Can't wait to see the bigger Talon. I currently am running a HPG highlander on a Stone Glacier Krux and I'm pretty happy with it... However, I've been smitten with the Talon for a while but thought it was just a little small... Might have to give it a shot!

A few size comparison photos...the nalgene is a 1.5L for size reference.

This is the 4800 empty without extensions vs a 4800 with extensions and stuffed. There is a significant difference in how these setups function. Lowered and compressed the pack feels like a daypack.

Always happens. I should have waited a year. All the things I paid an upgrade charge for (PALS, frame extensions) are now free. Didn't want to spend any more money on the side zip which is also now free. Love the pack though. Quick question if I received the pack in December did I get the updated harness system?
