Here is mine from this week. 3 rounds at 89,89.5, 90 grains of IMR 7828 behind 250gr Speer grand slam. Bullet seated to book specs. Max load per book is 91. Rifle is factory Remington 338 ultra mag. I am more than satisfied with the group at 90. That kind of group gives you a ton of confidence in the field. I also used this session to sight in the rifle as it’s new to me and the scope was from my other ultra mag.

That's not the painless load development, that's traditional small sample size OCW. The crux of this thread is literally to not waste time and components doing that, because the variability built into small sample size testing will leave you chasing your tail. Shoot a minimum of 10 at 90gr, or whatever you so choose, and report back.

Let’s try a novel combination. The goal is legit 700 yard (800y objective) terminal range in a 20” barreled 308 win.

308 win
Leverevolution
LC primed Crimped in brass
178gr ELD-X

Started at 46gr and seated until the bullet is not touching the lands. Too long-

46gr at 2.870 coal-

Then did one at 47gr, 47.5gr, and 48gr, left to right-

48gr has a decent swipe, so loaded one more up at 48gr and let it sit in the sun for bit-

Hot round is far right, same swipe-

Loaded 13 up at 47.5gr to check precision and MV.

Was this 7828SSC?

I’ve had great luck with it in .300 WM as well. Retumbo is a bit faster but accuracy with the 7828 is great
Used it in 257 weatherby so since I had it in good numbers I used it for my new 7mag load last season and was very happy with very little work up because of the threads on this forum such as this.

Took 13 rounds of LC primed and crimped brass, 47.5gr of Leverevolution, 178gr ELD-X at 2.870 coal and shot rapid from the 20” barreled T3 lite-

FF89762F-2365-4F99-AF39-52A6A72FB9BC.jpeg

Then 3 rounds just to see, from the T3 Tac Eval rifle (.25 MOA all day long of course)
D54FE841-6DA4-4D91-86A8-F8E4D3F2CF4C.jpeg

With the 20” barrels rifle trued muzzle velocity up at 960 yards. Guessed at 2,700fps MV, used a DA chart that gave 6,600ft (actually was 6,700). Shooter called for 8 mils. Shot 5 rounds at just a touch over 1 MOA, but .3 mils high. Went in the app, trued at 7.7 mils and got a corrected MV of 2,740fps.

That gives a 765 yard terminal range (1,800fos impact with this bullet) at this DA-

At 5,000ft DA it’s 725 yards-

As an aside, using the paper DA chart, rough Temperature, and rough elevation I was 100ft off on actual density altitude. I knew that I was just under 4,000ft elevation, and that it was about 90° F. That’s gives 6,600ft DA-

Actual elevation 3,844ft and temp was 91°

So using the chart have 6,600ish FT DA, actual was 6,702ft-

Just curious. Assuming that muzzle velocity is not free and now recoils like a 30-06?

Absolutely. There is no free lunch.

There is a load for 308’s using 185gr Berger Juggernaut’s and PP 2000MR that performs like some 300wm. Recoils like them too.

As for this last 308 load with Leverevolution and 178gr ELD-X’s, there is little doubt that with once fired Winchester cases that more muzzle velocity could be obtained, especially with PP 2000MR.

From past experience a long loaded version of this will make 2,775fps, maybe 2,800fps MV. From a 20” barrel.

That’s impressive. I’m getting just north of that with 60 grains of RS hunter in an 22 inch tube tikka 06 and there is not much room if any left before compressed load.

As you said, there is no free lunch. How is it possible either of those loads could be within 65-70k psi considering the small powder charge?

Loaded long with certain powders can do it. I am not saying this load is below 65k, I don’t know. It isn’t dangerous in these rifles however.

1 shot each 1 gr under max, half grain under, book max.

12 shots at book max, bottom right makes it 2 MOA, the rest are w in 1.5. Improvised rest, 100yard.

I’m thinking call it good to go for plinking.
77gr Sierra hpbt. Maybe down 0.1 mil?
