PA House Bill 1431 - Repeal ban on Sunday Hunting

I know some do not know but PA’s rifle season is only 2 weeks. The first Sunday is already open to hunting. The Game Commission would have to extend the season by a day to capture the last Sunday. The difference would be in archery and maybe small game. Those are not big draws compared to rifle season.

Spring gobbler is a big draw and adding Sundays would certainly increase opportunities for a good number of hunters. Likewise with our 100% PGC-released Pheasant season....there will be a pile of guys out on the extra Sundays, guaranteed.

Archery deer season is in fact very popular and since the inclusion of crossbows, the percentage of bucks tagged during archery has only increased in relation to rifle season. I believe this past season saw more bucks taken during archery than in rifle for the 1st time ever.

Sundays are always slow for the 3 that are open in pa. No where near a saturday for cars/people seen on public land.

For most I would venture to say that hunting is more recreational than it is “work” which infringes on keeping the sabbath holy. Never understood why it was banned on Sunday anywhere other than the thinking being they didn’t want people having fun on that day

Our ancestors often paid a lot of attention to the Old Testament. If you read that, even loosely, you start to question the wisdom of tolerating any sin or transgression of the law in your community. If you think that Jim’s absence from church (or Jim’s wife giving him a blowjob, or Jim working on the Sabbath, or Jim going to horse races, or whatever) is going to call down divine wrath on your community, you can become pretty authoritarian and intrusive. It sounds like Hell on earth to me.

Well let’s just hope Jim stays away from the horse races and bjs, for the sake of the community. Where’s the meme hole gang? Somebody fire up the spotlight with the bat signal.

I killed more animals in PA on Sundays than any other day of the week.

IMO there is more to hunting than just killing deer, bear, turkeys and small game......

In one of the most heavily hunted states in the nation, the animals need a day of rest.

Do your part and go out and get you some predators and nest raiders!

Just a lil FYI, I am a combat Vet who served his country w pride. Might wanna watch what you say..

I have my opinion on Sunday hunting like many here. Just don’t think it is necessary.
I have an opinion, too, and I expressed it.

Your implied threat doesn't negate my opinion nor does it make me less inclined to share it. Most importantly, it does exactly nothing to change it and really only serves to reinforce it.

They also say "the road to hell is paved with rationalization".

Just as easy to be in church thinking about God as it is about hunting. It's a choice really.

The difference is, sitting in church shows you're willing to give something up for Him...
This assumes that everyone shares the same beliefs and that everyone is a member of or participates in a church.

This is the most insane thread I’ve ever read on this forum. I expected 100% support for this.

It’s not like you can’t look at a dozen other states as predictors who have previously gotten rid of Sunday hunting bans and see what if any negative impact there was.

We got rid of our Sunday hunting ban here in the 90s, and our deer herd is better than ever.

The attitudes in this thread boggle my mind.
It wasn't that way when they grew up, they did OK. The world hasn't changed at all since 1984 so everything is exactly the same and nothing needs to change

That wasn’t an implied threat, look again.

Fullfan’s saying your comment is insulting, that anyone against the Bill is against freedom. That’s totally unjustified.

He put his butt on the line in the name of American freedom and still disagrees with the Bill proposal. He’s not saying you can’t have an opinion, just that he earned the right to have his too.

I agree with him.

Never said he didn't.

I was the one told to "watch what I say"

Freedom doesn't mean dissenting opinions have to shut up and "watch what they say"

Why shouldn't I have the freedom to hunt public land or land that I own on a Sunday?

That is why I say that those who oppose Sunday hunting oppose freedom.

You're welcome to any opinion you wish to hold.

Freedom is the ability to choose the day I wish to hunt within seasons set by the game management authority, not having to stay home because someone thinks I ought to sit in a pew instead of a treestand.

It means show some respect when you call someone not a supporter of freedom because they may have put their life on the line in the service. A call for you to be a bit more considerate. That’s all. Sheesh.

You don’t own public land.

And as of November 2024, 24 states had constitutional amendments proclaiming a right to hunt and fish. Vermont has had this right since 1777. Sadly, PA is not amongst them.
