PA House Bill 1431 - Repeal ban on Sunday Hunting

Why do you think that is...🤔

Missed the point, didn't you.

The stores are clearly open on Sundays currently because of Sunday hunting……….

Because in America we like to make money and you are not making money when the stores closed.

I don’t see your point. You’re acting like the stores are already not open. Sunday hunting or not retail stores are going to be open whether you like it or not.

I’m just amazed at the people that are against additional opportunity to hunt.
Pa is a wonderful state to live in and provides many hunting opportunities but this is one of the things that really hampers people.

Everyone bitches about low hunter numbers but they don’t realize people are not going to buy tags when you can only go out 2 times a year.

I don’t disagree fully either with the guy above who said you need to make it priority. To an extent he’s right but it also doesn’t mean you alienate and ignore your kids to hunt either. There is a happy medium with everything.

Hypocrite much????

Here is a post you made on September 14, 2024

Eastern Idaho where we had bulls working from Tue-Fri, have died down. Heard two 1/2 hearted bugles this morning at 0800. Things here have turned way down.

anyone want to guess what day september 14 was on in 2024?? Sunday

So it's ok to hunt bugling elk on sunday for you but not whitetail in PA??

I spent the entire month of Sept, west chasing bulls. Have killed early and late.
The ENTIRE month?? hope that didn't include Sundays!!!

you also coitize people for driving 2-3 hours to hunt?? yet you post the following:

Been doing it for the last 30 years, Western Pa to Idaho 2200 miles on way. For years we pulled old trailers, always took spare hub assembly's and lots of tires.

perhaps you should take up fishing as a hobby rather than fuddposting on roklslide???? lol (although i did enjoy reading your TSS posts ..good stuff lol)

I don’t know if the guy said he doesn’t hunt on Sundays. Did he?

It’s already legal to hunt whitetail on 3 designated Sundays in PA. I don’t see anything hypocritical about saying that’s enough, no need to completely rescind the ban.

Bear in mind this bill is to overturn the statutory hunting Sunday ban entirely. Not just for whitetail deer. So it’s quite a bit more far reaching throughout the year than just deer seasons.

I also fail to see a strong correlation between chasing September bulls in Idaho and deer hunting PA. Idaho and PA are sort of dissimilar in so many ways that there’s significant hurdles to connecting those dots.

But as for the traveling to hunt bit, from what you've posted it seems he's got a plan, is willing to
do it, and not complain. So Again, I don't follow the gotcha logic.

Maybe I missed it but what is your hold up on Sunday hunting ?

At least some of the folks screaming about low hunter numbers are only doing it as a means to their own ends.

There wasn’t Sunday deer hunting in PA for, I don’t know, 200 years? And yet there was a decade of annual license sales exceeding 1million.

That said, I completely understand where many folks who want Sundays opened up are coming from.

Okay and your point ? That was in Idaho 2200 miles from where I live. W a 1000.00 tag .

Sounds like you have all the answers. None of us should have had children either or allow them or encourage them to play sports. You want a day off from hunting? Make it Monday or Wednesday.
I do have most all the answers, just ask my wife or 34 years.

Raised 3 kids, never missed a sporting event, clear through college. Never missed a day I wanted to hunt. Also managed to take all my kids hunting. All without Sunday hunting here in Pa.

Still no need to hunt Sunday here in Pa.
Western states where time was limited is comparing apples to oranges.

Maybe I missed it but what is your hold up on Sunday hunting ?

Oh, I don’t specifically have one. I come from out of state and it’d be better for me.

Doesn’t mean I can’t agree with some arguments against it too. It’s not all about what I want. Nor does it mean I’ll automatically hurrah personal attacks on those who put forth a dissenting opinion.

Were I a resident, I’d be looking into this situation more fervently:

I’d argue that dynamics have changed. I can agree on years ago and numbers.

I talked to the director of pheasants forever about 5 years ago and his thought were kids sports have hurt the hunting industry. I agree with him. While I am only 35 I have talked to old timers who told me that kids sports where one day a week back then not every night of the week. I can however agree with you that the parents are at fault for thT for letting it get so far out of hand. I played a sport at a high level and I can tell you that 99% of your little Jonny’s are not going pro.

Curious why Sunday hunting should be allowed?

This is a very strange question. If it has anything to do with religion then shame on you for thinking others should give a sh!t. Some people like to spend their Sundays going to church while others like to spend it hunting. Last time I checked no one was saying Sunday church shouldn’t be allowed…

It’s a joke that you say Sunday hunting in PA shouldn’t be allowed because it has never effected your hunting time while in same breath say it’s OK you hunted Sundays out west because your time was limited and you had a bigger financial incentive.

Your the only one trying to make this apples to oranges🤣

You sir, beat me to the punch bowl. Paints him in the picture of a lot of PA hunters. Where the motto is, as long as it's good for me, and it's my way, then everyone else can pound sand.

Thumbs down button hit.

I certainly agree that things have changed. And there’s likely numerous factors for decreased hunter numbers since those days. I talked earlier in this thread about changes in the hunting and hunting culture where I’ve hunted in PA.

It’d be neat to chart the demographics year to year as numbers declined and try and have a bit more context for causes and correlations.
