Ozarks Rally - any interest?

I wouldn't mind doing something a little earlier in the year so I have an excuse to play with my stove a little. Plus, if we went with the idea of letting people try out gear and clothing like jackets and stuff, it would probably be nice if it wasn't already getting really warm out.

I got the PM from Pilgrim which sounded interesting regarding the turkey season but as an out of stater, I probably wouldn't take part or at least hunt myself.

Pilgrim, I'll be out your way in May but my wife would kill me if I ran off to play. My wife's uncle has land 4 miles north of Buffalo, we'll be visiting them for a few days this may then head down to Branson for a few.

I'd be up for a KC get together.

River Rat-Meremac is an awesome area. Been up there runnin around and canoeing, would like to take another trip up there for sure, just not sure when.

colonel00- fixin to PM you

dotman- ping me when you're in Buffalo! I'll meet ya in town for lunch or something!

I'm in kc area, there is a couple wilderness areas small by western standards, in the mark twain national forest around rolla, might make for a good back pack turkey hunt. I need to test my gear before I head to colorado this fall!!!

I think it is like $190 for the tag for a non-res which is why I probably won't do it. Plus, don't you also have to get a license?

$190 for out of state turkey tag - good for two birds - in MO. You can kill one bird on the first week, but then you have to wait until week two to kill your second bird. You can't kill both birds on the same day. If you don't get a bird the first week, you can kill two birds during the second or third week.

Thanks River Rat, beat me to the punch.

Gonna have to pull the trigger on dates here pretty quick. If we do the 2nd or 3rd weekend of season, non-res hunters have a chance to fill both their tags. Will there even be any non-res in attendance AND hunting?

I would like to attend a Rondy type camp out or backpack, but probably won't drop $200 on non res tags to hunt.

There are quite a few places here near rolla, ~20 min.
Woodson k. woods has decent turkey but doesn't allow shooting firearms other than shotgun if you guys just wanted to do some shooting.
There is all kinds of areas of mark twain all over, one area has some fairly large fields to do longer range shooting and there were a lot of turkey a couple years ago but I haven't hunted there since so couldn't say for sure now, though I wouldn't imagine they are gone. That area also features terrain from flat to smaller sheer bluffs.
There is also beaver creek CA that is another archery only except shotgun. Plenty of turkey there but is a small area. It does however have an archery range and a 3d course.

I have more local options as well those are the closest to rolla.

I would be interested, I did some talking to the forest people a month back, good turkey numbers, from what they said.

Looks like there's potential for a nice turnout.

I'll be mostly unavailable from this afternoon through Sat. evening. Taking the church youth group on a hike/camp out this afternoon/tonight and orienteering course tomorrow.

Sat. evening I'll synthesize what all's been said and name a date/time/location. If we need to adjust fire, we can.

I originally said i could not do the first weekend of May, but my wonderful significant other has pointed out that I once again am WRONG.

I am unavailable the 10th/11th. All other weekends before work.

I'm off the second and third weeks of turkey season any dates in that time frame should work for me.

I look, I'm schudelue to take of the 1st week of season, but I see what I can come up wit.
