After moving to BC I knew I needed to get a good optics system for mountain hunting. In Ontario cheap 10x42 were adequate but not for out here. So here is what I put together in the last 6 months. This will be used for everything in BC. Please share what you're using.

1. AGC hybrid harness. I modified it because it was a bit bulky and my bino were loose in it. I trimmed the edges off the lid then removed the front pocket. I got a good deal on this harness that's why I bought it then I modified to what I like. 12 oz with rf case included

2. Sig kilo 850 rf. Great deal couldn't pass up. 5.25 oz

3. 10 x 42 Leica Trinovid (pre HD model) 28.7 oz with tether for harness and tripod adapter stud

4. Outdoorsmans bino adapter. So pricey but rock solid and functions perfectly. 3.4 oz with plate

5. Cabelas Krotos 15-48 x 65 spotter. I was looking hard at other scopes but the recent deal on this was too good to pass up. 51 oz with neoprene cover and plate

6. Sirui A-1005 tripod and Manfrotto befree live head. I made some modifications to the tripod by trimming the center post and removing some heavy hardware that was not needed. Also I removed the large and heavy handle from the befree head and it replaced it with a carbon arrow. 51.6 oz for both

So for a price around $1600 and a total weight of 9.5 lbs I am pretty happy the quality of the optics and the functionality of it all. I could shave some weight with a carbon tripod and step up the quality of my spotter and rf but overall I don't feel I NEED anything more to be successful in the mountains.

Great setup! I love buying quality stuff used.

That looks like the same Trinovid model I am running, do you happen to know which binocular stud adapter from Outdoorsmans you got to work? I'm having trouble deciphering which one I need. Thanks!

Looks good, I'm also stepping up my optics game a bit, I'll likely go full Swarovski, I just got a z3 2-10 scope and am working on a deal with a guy to get a pair of EL 10x42s. Im also planning to buy an ATS 65 towards the end of the summer before sheep season.

The system worked great my first year in BC. I was able to count rings from 300yds away on the sheep and able to identify sex on the goat from 350.

Thanks Jimbob, when I talked to them they couldn't give a perfect answer as to which stud without sending the binos in. I ordered 2 studs and fingers crossed one will work.

I made a huge leap in my optics game this off season. Previously I was running vortex viper 10x42s and a ranger 1000 rangefinder. Moving forward I’ll be running Swaro 8x42 EL range binos (bought them used) an ATX 65 (bought used) Zeiss conquest 15x50 binos (demos) and I picked up two tripods - one Sirui w/outdoorsmans pistol grip (used) and a promaster with manfrotto pan head. I won’t be lugging everything all the time, but I figure I’ve got all my needs covered for the foreseeable future. Considering I’m striking out drawing tags so far, I may not need any of this stuff any time soon, unfortunately.

That's a slick move with the carbon arrow in place of the handle on the tripod head! I'm going to try the same on my 700rc2. Thanks!
