Ok you old timers..... Explain to me how the Dana Design K2.....

We didn't run into any issues with the shoulder straps. Adjusted them to fit his torso and swapped belts for his waist size.

Here's a link to some more info.
Dana Design

I have a terraframe that I still use. Colby I really like your setup with the CP.

On my harness there is a wide strap that goes down the center, it has velcro on it, if you pull it to release it you can move the harness up and down vertically.

There are also adjusters next to the yellow magic wands that you will need to relax or tension when you move the harness up or down.

Here's another shot of them on the bag side with the bag removed

This is the strap you pull to "engage" the magic wands. It should be relaxed when you put the pack on.

SHTF If you need anymore pics let me know. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you end up doing with yours.

Thats perfect man. Thanks again Appreciate you posting that.

I used a Kifaru belt for my buddy. Slipped the power rods into the slot pocket where the duplex would ride and it works great.

I'm running a Kifaru belt as well. Hadn't thought of putting the wands in the pockets. You give up adjustment, correct? I'll give this a shot and report back.

Not sure I understand giving up adjustment. When the power rods are inserted into the slot pocket, I feel they work just like "regular stays". After getting your belt tight, shoulder straps snug, then pull on the load lifter straps and the load is transferred from the shoulder straps onto the power rods being supported by the duplex belt. Re adjust your shoulder straps for comfort and you should be ready to go.

No I don't. It's a large frame. I don't have it in front of me right now but when I can get my hands on it I'll take some general measurements and get back to you

Thank you buddy, I've sourced another belt, if I can get away with using it as is I'm all for that.

We've found that having the rods inside the pockets gives it great weight transfer while having them "loose" on the outside of the belt doesn't give as good a transfer. The more we would tighten the straps on the belt the more he rods moved positions but didn't really transfer weight well. YMMV

This was EXACTLY my experience as well. Glad you took the time to investigate. Thanks again.

Is anybody else running kifaru bags on dana frames? I have a nomad coming in the mail later this week, but my Kifaru frame is still a few weeks away from shipping

Please please make this work!!! Been wondering about the fitment of the sleeve over the top. SHTF has all the parts, pieces, and experience to make this happen, I'm sure.

The rods weren't designed for vertical weight transfer at all, they are to tension the front of the belt and essentially pull it down. With the fixed dana lumbar pad all the vertical transfer is through the metal frame itself. Also if the rods aren't positioned correctly they will just bottom out the webbing without tensioning properly.
whether you find the tension of the rods useful is another matter all together.

There would be no real connection between the bag and frame beyond whatever compression straps you rigged up, the dana frame is much wider and different in every way then the kifaru system.

You're totally right

I just picked up one of these for hauling my bear bait stuff and meat. I don’t plan on running the bag on it. Anyone come up with a way to get the load lifters working without the bag? Thought about adding some loops off the top bar with a slider.

I used to have this pack, I don’t remember the load lifters connecting to the bag. Thought they were part of the harness that’s attached to the frame.
You have a pic?

The pack was made for quite a while and it looks like the shoulder straps changed from the original to the later model. I don’t remember details about an early model pack I had for a short time in the 1990s, but my current imported k2 load lifters are attached close to the diagonal frame bars. They aren’t at the height of many packs and sort of just pull straight back level with the height of the shoulders.

This is a blast from the past - old Dana frame packs aren’t mentioned much any more. I keep one as a loaner pack since it fits a wide range of body sizes and used prices today are so low it’s almost free.
