What bothers me is not the scope on the package or not, but the fact that they, or any one else, markets a “plug and play” or “turn key” ready to go package for long range hunting, made available to the masses! That doesn’t sit well with me because it makes Bubba think he can iust pony up the cash for one of these whiz bang packages and go kill stuff at 800 yards.

Systems like this should not be bought, but built. Because by building, one becomes more intimately familiar with the process, the requirements, and such. You are forced to learn, and practice and shoot a lot to make the system work. That’s the way it should be. You can’t buy long range proficiency. Yet, package deals like this one sure encourage people to try!

Gunwerks has been advertising "1000 yards out of the box" for years. Are you saying this is concerning because the barrier to entry is lower and thus increasing the "Bubba" risk?

Idk I'm perfectly capable of working up a rifle.
But im also time limited.

Why shouldn't I be able to purchase a system that I check zero, drops and do actual practice w the time I have.
Vs several range trips working up a load etc.

I don't just assume people are having these packages drop shipped straight to the outfitter and heading out on a gov tag.
You, and most of the rest of us here, are the exceptions.

The majority of people of who buy this are going to buy the magic gun, with the magic ammo, and go straight into the field!

Stopped by Apex.

Lots of features for the price point.

Maybe a bit, if I’m honest, but I’ve also hated their marketing since day one for this reason. It’s just now made even more mainstream. Which makes me hate it even more!

Bubba already thinks that no matter the rifle.
Generally agree. Could also definitely see there being an extra level of confidence(ignorance) for lots of people once they pay $5k for a gunwerks SYSTEM super tuned by the experts from the company that brought you "1000 yards out of the box". They paid way more than some guy with a savage and a CDL so clearly everything is going to be that much more dialed.

I thought the werkman rifle data was based upon factory hornady ammo. No reason you couldn't do the same with a different rifle without the load workup.

I am at a range 3-4 times a week. Dudes with Ruger Americans, turrets, and "match factory ammo" are shooting to and past 1000 yards and thinking they are competent LR hunters. While I agree GW might have started the X yards out of the box. It has spread to the rifle masses.

Oh goody- My favorite subject.

You both are correct. However, the thing I will say, is that bubba with his Ruger and CDS turret, are so far off from an animal at 600+ yards, that it’s just a miss. If that same person took your rifle or my rifle with dope card on it, they’re not missing at 600+; they’re close enough to wound. We can hand someone that has never shot past 100 yards with a system that is trued up correctly, and they will be within a of couple feet at 800 yard on the first shot. Generally that same person, regardless of blasting at the range, won’t be in the same zip code at 800 yards with their Ruger/CDS.

The “1,000 yards out of the box” nonsense and CDS thing is a problem; but the real issue is anyone believing that they can or should be shooting past point blank range without shooting thousands of shots a year in varying field environments.

That’s an outlier though. While I am sure they exist, in thousands upon thousands of shooters and hunters I have yet to meet someone that doesn’t have to time to set a rifle up, that has time to practice and understand what is happening enough to be taking 600 yard shots in animals.

They are. Or the equivalent. I have met dozens of people hunting and at ranges with the Gunwerks style systems, and have never met one that said they did anything other than shoot a couple steel plates at 500 to 1,000 yards before hunting with it. It’s actually been about 50/50 split between people that have shot them at all- even checking zero, and those who have taken it straight from the box with included ammo and went hunting without ever firing a single shot first.

Let's say I have 8 weekends over the summer to practice.
All im saying is if I spend the first 4 shooting groups for load work up.
Thats waisted time imo.
Thats for more trips I could be doing real stuff.

But I don't public. So you see more then me lol

Haha. Well, that goes into why are you spending 4 weekends “working up a load”? If you are buying a “system”, you’re not doing anything different than buying a normal rifle and Hornady Match or ELD-X ammo. They are not “working up a load” in every single rifle they are selling. And even the companies that are doing so, they’re not doing what people believe they are anyways.

Good point on first paragraph. I guess we should be glad Bubba is that dumb. And Amen on second paragraph!
