So I may have screwed something up in the application so looking for some answers. My buddy and I applied as a party with no intention of hunting in 2025, we were shooting for 2026. He went in with 1 point, I went in with 2 for an average of 1.5. It’s showing that I drew the elk combination but he did not. How is that possible? Really not sure what I’ll do now since I was planning on drawing Colorado this year.
You drew a returned tag (released tag) your group was split after the initial draw.

You didn't draw but got a released tag.

I had to call with the same concern. If it says you were successful but the party wasn't, it basically means in the first round of drawing that you weren't successful. Then that somebody who opted to return their tag if they didn't get a permit, their general tag is put back in and draws are run a second time and that time you were successful. My father in law and I were in the exact same point situation and I confirmed we both got tags.

Have you seen on his account lookup your FIL drew? Because seeing guys that had 2pp say they didn't draw it would be impossible for your FIL to draw with 1pp. As the guys with 2 would've gotten a released tag before him. If he did truly get a tag than 2pp is 100% which it isn't as guys haven't drawn.

They use pp to rank you in the released tags too. I hope you're right and your FIL has a tag but I bet if you look up his account it will say unsuccessful unfortunately.

So I’m assuming there’s no way to get the 80% refund AND our points back? The issue is by buddy absolutely cannot go this year.

Edited to add: my buddy DID actually get a released tag as well, but he only had one point. We’re in a real pickle now.

I just double checked his account and we both got released tags. I had two points and he has one point. I agree it doesn't make sense but thats what both accounts say

Nope. Wouldve been better off eating the $50 and just both gotten pref points this summer and next app season if you didn't want to hunt MT this year.
Yeah, you’re right. Hindsight is 20/20…didn’t want to go into 2026 with a potential 90% chance of drawing. That obviosuly didn’t work out…
