Another guy in my group went in with 0 for the big game combo. Got a 3rd that’s just in for the adventure and going tagless.

With my luck I’ll strike out and he will draw!

We’ll see, either way excited for the fall and looking forward to getting back into the mountains.

Curious to see how the odds play out this year. We’ll find out in about two weeks I guess.

Can someone clarify this for me:

If I applied for a combo license last year, do I have to apply again this year to retain my PP? Not planning on hunting Montana this year so I would prefer to just buy the point, but I can't figure out if that lets me keep my preference point from last year.

You can just buy the point for this year. You will need to apply next year to keep your obtained preference points.

From the FWP website:

"Any accumulated preference points are lost if the applicant does not apply for a nonresident combination license in consecutive years, or if you are successful at obtaining a combination license."

I'd call FWP but they're probably slammed today. I thought once you have a point you have to keep applying or you lose that point.

I did call, and the way it was explained to me is that you have to apply in order to retain your PP.

In with 1 resident bonus point for the 3 point or fewer tag in you know where. I’m gonna draw that tag so sorry everybody else! Gonna be looking for that world class 2x2 when I draw it.

Edit: whoops forgot I’m in the elk forum! Got myself in for the unit NW of three forks. Otherwise I’ll be out opening weekend of archery with my buddies in a spot we should have killed a bull opening day last year
