I spoke to a man with a couple of decades experience in arms technology development for the US government. His impression is that Russia is in a dominant position that will only get stronger due to their energy, food production, and manufacturing capabilities. They (Russia) don’t have the best equipment, or the most advanced, but the can make a lot of it, fast, and cheap. It’s ultimately a numbers game.

The NATO garage sale is about over and contrary to propaganda (obviously on both sides) Russia is not struggling.

This may be the truth. The dollar has been real strong but the ruble is today 62 per dollar, right before the uke invasion it was 75 so the ruble has gained on the dollar. I hear the nato countries are arguing about who is going to keep depleting the stockpile of weapons by giving more to uke....they are doing it by %. But at an even % some countries are left with very little....that is what I hear anyway.

Really interesting to see the variety of takes here.

I think the US/allies will meter arms and support to the Ukranians to keep it going as long as possible, and I think that can be for a long time, years even. I think the odds of a decisive victory by either side are quite low.

The defense industry is hoping for a long protracted war for certain.

My wife likes to talk about various conspiracy things - some are interesting, others piss me off with their absurdity. Some kind of excitement in the middle aged doldrums I guess. We do have a stash of food and some other supplies like plastic sheeting and duct tape - Tape up your doors if you want to seal the house, etc.

So far, we've lived thru a multitude of supposed end of the world events and haven't even lost power.

The fear talk is just to distract you and give you something to worry about. Things would have to be real messed-up for nukes to fly. If it gets that bad, they'd be doing us a favor.

The funny thing is folks think this Russia/Ukraine war is real - Russia could have rolled in, levelled the entire country and did whatever they want. Having a drawn out "conflict" is just a load of crap for political and financial gain. Hardly even see much about it and many pictures I did see were staged - bomb strewn cars with their windows intact, stuff like that. Wag the dog.

For sure. And my opinion is informed by RAND Corporation types folks, so that might color it some.

Also just seems to make sense: 1) the western world has realized the Ukrainians aren't going to get steamrolled, so it makes sense to support (making that 'investment' isn't futile). 2) It's dangerous for everyone if Putin gets completely embarrassed here.

I suspect gabenzeke is right.....Ukraine was (and is) one of the most corrupt countries in Europe (and Zelenskyy silences (arrests, shuts down, etc.) his opponents yet we are chest deep in this war. Between the MIC and the HB connection, we are in it for the long haul as wrong as it is.

Propaganda is a powerful machine. 1 of 5 Republicans still believes the 2020 election was stolen.
Hard not to believe it IMO. I mean, if you actually watched what was going on.
Even more so now, as we get a real insight as to how corrupt the Dems are and the things they are willing to do, to maintain power.

It's almost like Ukraine has some dirt on someone in a high place in American politics and the industrial military complex is just happy to be selling weapons.

This is exactly right. Biden threatening the president of Ukraine, on camera, for the Ukrainian prosecutor to be fired or else $1 billion in aid would be withheld......yeah, nothing shady going on there.

People can say what they want about Trump, some of it warranted, but he is nowhere close to being as corrupt as the president we have now.

Rokslide is going to have to start charging for service, just to fund the WD40 needed to keep the lock and ban buttons working.

The cia most likely appointed zelensky and he is doing the bidding for the US. We all know the military industrial complex is a real thing and certain people are becoming very rich from this war. The war in the Middle East has ended so there has to be a new one to keep the cash rolling in. War is profitable, this will likely go on for years and years.
The US has not a war since 1945 but has invaded over a dozen countries. Im a combat vet and the past few years has really opened up my eyes on the grift. The 20 years in Iraq( second invasion) based on lies like the first was sort of a clue lol

Zelensky was under investigation for stealing close to a billion in foreign aid , had an approval rating in the low 20's and suddenly the war started. Ukraine is just a mother corrupt third world money laundering operation.

No, that’s the master Russian plan. Make the west think your entire military complex is inept and just when they least expect it….here comes the real professional soldiers with the 10 T-14s, 5 Kurgenats-25s and 4 BMPT-72 Terminators to steamroll Ukraine into submission.

The fact that people believe that there’s some reserve of professional soldiers in Russia waiting to be unleashed is laughable. The best equipment they have is the T-90 and their turrets are popping off at a staggering rate. Their senior commanders are laughably inept. They completely lack a professional NCO corp and have no ability to exercise mission command (much less any of the other war fighting functions) at any level. They lack the ability to combine the maneuver warfighting function with the fires enterprise on any meaningful level. Their armor attempts to maneuver without infantry to protect it from the hunter-killer teams running rampant. They lack the ability to sustain their forces in the fight. In a nutshell, they’re a joke and have exposed their ineptitude for the world to see. The Russian military was the gold standard of our adversaries, this 9 month “special operation” has shown the west that we can shift our focus to China while keeping a lazy eye on the Russian bear.

Maybe I’ll eat my words, but I doubt it.
How many wars has the US won the past 60 years? Name them lol

Have you spent any time training with the Russian military? What years? Funny how many experts appear when a year ago they could not even locate Ukraine on a world map or name their leadership and history

I see Russia just knocked out over 30 per cent of power and water in Ukraine and winter is approaching quickly.

Like say they won an election when the vote count and lack of material proof to the contrary says otherwise? Now THAT would be the height of corruption to maintain power.

So is anyone starting to prep (i realize a lot of us on this site are already prepped) for a potential fallout?

Im insulin dependent so I’ll be dead within days/weeks without medicine that could be hard to get. I have enough supply to get through about 6 months.

I have water tablets and some canned food otherwise haha.

All I can think about is how big the bulls will get from all the radiation. I'm trying to picture an 800"+ bull. Lol.

It does seem Russia really underestimated yet another opponent, fighting on and for their home ground.
