Since y 'all got me squared away after my shooting bag question I have one more for the brain trust:
What pack is everyone using for matches?
Planning on using my MR Mule 22L pack since it is my normal hunting day pack, but I am sure that there are better options out there.

Any daypack is fine.

The gamer go-to has been the eberlestock upranger.

I'll give my 2 cents on this. I have been using my Kifaru with a 22Mag bag on it. I could go down in size to more of a backpack and am going to try a Eberlestock Freefall 2000. But I'm also a little jealous of id_jon's hip pack. I also have a Kifaru scabbard set up with a small pack that I may try out this year on the matches I drive to. But anything will work.

The specific pack you choose is less important than how you utilize it when it comes to time and efficiency.

I really like the Kifaru 357 Mag but I ripped mine and switched to my Exo K4 and it worked very well.

The pack just needs enough room for your shooting gear, snacks, water, and rain gear. Then you need to have a system that allows you to remove the tripod and shooting bag as fast as possible.

I place my tripod running up the center of the pack (bottom in the Exo rifle carrier) with the sandbag laid over it and one strap securing them both. I do the same thing hunting. Walk up to the stage, drop the rifle on the bipod, drop the pack, and unclip one buckle. Very fast, and you have everything you need.

What workflow does everybody use for engaging targets? Is it find, range and engage each target as you find it, or find them all and then come back to engage in sequence?

Find all of them, writing range+elevation on armboard as I find them, trying to landmark well also, and then engage after. I start shooting no matter what with 1 minute left, ideally I'm starting to shoot by 2 minutes.

I give myself 2 minutes to 2min 30seconds to find and range the targets. All of them. If I can’t find one start shooting. Following that I engage the targets in whatever sequence and positions.

My shooting partner has the OBI stud and hanger system, and I think I am going to go that route for carrying tripod and rifle between stages. Just wondering if there is a better pack system for me.
Thanks

Having that OBI setup or similar makes a bigger difference than which bag or pack you use IMO.

I just got the OBI system for carrying my tripod. Want to check it out in use and then maybe invest for the rifle. I’ve just always thought having the rifle hanging right there on your shoulder would feel worse than just carrying it.

It’s a pretty simple thing to go wrong. What have you seen?
I see people having trouble unhooking them and pulling up on the shoulder strap of their pack, which they still need to take off after pulling the tripod off. As you walk up to the stage, you now have a tripod in your hand, a rifle in the other, and have to set the rifle down before you can spread the legs and set the tripod aside. Next, you unclip your sandbag (most people use a clip to attach to their belt if they also use the OBI) and set it down. Now you take your pack off and start setting up.

I set my rifle down. Take my pack off, unclip one buckle that releases both items, and I start glassing. I can use the exact same system for hunting, so I'm competing/practicing how I'll hunt, which is why I shoot these matches. (And they are a lot of fun)

Either way works for people, so a guy should do it however he prefers. I prefer to keep it really simple.

I bought one of the OBI posts and mlok deals for my exo for hunting. I’m not sure it’s worth it for me for match use. I don’t have an issue just carry my stuff and having one buckle to pop.

The post was nice while hunting. Quick hang it on there to glass or do whatever.
