Was thinking about this thread the other day and a memory surfaced, neighbors dog was really mean, chewed up one of my dogs and then I caught it eating one of my chickens in the drive, I did the old SMS trick, shot, missed and shutup! Worked pretty good and I didn't have to dig a hole!

we have people living down the driveway(we live back in the woods) with mastiffs so they are massive dogs... a few weeks ago they got ahold of one of our pigs and tore its face up and killed three chickens... shut it with a bb gun and it didn't do shit... we almost shot it with the .22

I would go the route of the red rider but if you really get pissed and want to send a strong, non-lethal message- Empty a shotgun shell of all pellets. Fill it back up with salt rocks. Shoot the dog in the hind end no closer than 20 yards. You won't see that dog again.
