Is there a non lethal option I can use to shoot a dog with???

I have a dog that’s been coming around my property, pissing on my tires, it pissed on my snow machine too. Finally the other day it took a shit in my shop.

I’ve talked to the owners and they are less than useful in this situation. I don’t want to call animal control because the owners likely won’t go get the dog and it will get put down.

I need to make a point with this dog without harming it.

I see some small game tips but they have metal on them.

Any other options?

Even a rubber blunt can do damage. Really, it isn't the dogs fault as the owners are just letting it run amok so it is doing what dogs do. Shoot the dog and injure it and you may be in hot water. I'd call animal control and let them sort it out.

True but my property is a secluded 4 acres, I don't think there is any way the neibors could see it happen.

Unless one of the blunts penetrates and the dog runs home with it in his ass. This is my take, fwiw; dogs aren't too bright sometimes. They do dog stuff and it's up to the owner to quell bad behavior. I get your frustration but, it's the owners that are the problem, not the dog. If I found the dog to be a serious/dangerous problem, I'd put it down. If it's just being a dog, call animal control.

You aren't wrong. These dog owners are real dirtbags though, rich people who think they own the neighborhood. I had a brand new snow machine delivered and I came out and there was piss all over it and this dog just cruising around...i figured a few bruised ribs would teach the dog a lesson but you are right, worse, I'd probably smoke it and that would add a new layer to the problem.

I think you should do like cops where they get pepper sprayed and tased before they can use them. Have a buddy shoot you in the ribs with a rubber blunt out of his hunting compound. If you think it would be a good life lesson for the dog after that, have at it.

Live trap it, then bring it to the pound. Better yet, live trap it, then call animal control and have them come pick it up. The owners will get tired of that hassle and all the fees.

Or super-soaker with ammonia. That will teach the dog the lesson you want it to have without hurting it (again, not the dog's fault here), and the owners won't like the smell, either.

I’m not the one going around urinating on expensive stuff that people worked really hard to buy. I get it that people are dog lovers, I love my dogs but I have control of them. If the dog goes to the shelter, it’s not coming back. I was hoping to avoid that.

Maybe animal control grabbing it up and the dog potentially going to a new home is best. That or the owners will realize they are shitty dog owners and be better. Either way, hurting the dog isn't the right way, and you already know that or you wouldn't be asking.

Not trying to argue here, just wanted to point out a few things. The people know they are snotty dog owners, I’ve tried talking to them a dozen times or so. The dog catcher here dosent adopt out animals, just bite them down after some set period of time. I agree if somebody else could take the dog that would be best. People are incredibly stupid about pet ownership in Alaska, I can’t tell you how often you can check the local Facebook group and some idiot is raging angry because somebody ran their dog over….that was unleashed and running in the road. There is a lack of personal responsibility here. People shock collar dogs so a thump in the ribs didn’t seem bad but after your first post where you mentioned I the ramifications of doing too much damage I’d more or less made up my kind not to go that route.

Not that 2 wrongs make a right but most trouble dogs just get shot (not by me, I don’t want to kill a dog) so an arrow with a rubber tip seemed like
A better idea for a few minutes.

A "shock collar" is misleading when you know how and why the are used. If the owners suck, which they sound like they do, do you really want to be the one that deals with the dog? Unfortunately, the dog is doomed one way or another. I wouldn't want to be involved in what happens to it.

Ever considered a red Ryder BB gun? It’s pretty effective at adjusting behavior from a distance and it moves so slow unless you hit the dog in the eye you can’t possibly hurt it.

I don’t want to be involved either, I mind my own business and keep my dogs on my land. I don’t drive fast through the neighborhood and I don’t have raging parties at my place.

I’m just pissed. Looking out the windows there is piss on every single vehicle I own and it’s not from my dogs. I don’t want to do some crazy shit but I’m feeling really pressed. I called the police and their response was “keep the snow machine covered up”…….that made me angry.

It did cross my mind, I was worried it would break the skin and cause an infection or something. Maybe it won’t.

One pump on a BB gun shouldn't so damage. I've been shot and it stung but didn't break skin.

Get a paintball gun. It has no chance of being lethal. Unload on the dog and it will get the picture quick. And there will be a visual clue to the owners that it was somewhere it shouldn't be. Do that enough and they should get the picture.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn’t blunt the dog. If you bust him up and the owners call the police you could be charged with animal cruelty. I’d say you have 2 options, SSS or call animal control and let them deal with it. Whatever you do, don’t make a bad situation worse.

I definitely wouldn’t use a blunt tip. Could be lethal on a dog.

I don't think you could send a rubber blunt out of an adult spec'd bow and not have a really good chance of it breaking a dog's bone, especially rib.

Chuck some fireworks and an air horn, or get a meaner dog than the shitpisser.

Yeah.

After cooling down a bit I’m looking for another alternative to the blunt tip arrow thing. Really I probably didn’t think it through well enough and I don’t want to break any bones.

Somebody asked but the dog is probably a 50lb lab type thing, the bow i was thinking of using was my 40lb bow fishing recurve.
