Just got an email from Battlehawk Armory that Staccato is discontinuing the newer, doublestack version of the Staccato C, and confirmed it with a call to their factory. They'll be continuing to support it, including making mags for it, but their production is going to be shifting over to their HD line, with the Series 80 trigger that uses Glock mags.

It's disappointing as hell, given that it's just about the slimmest duty-grade 2011 out there, especially given the exceptionally rave reviews of its performance and reliability @Formidilosus has shared.

Battlehawk has some, and Gunbroker does as well. Just picked up a DLC'd one, that I thought I'd do next year sometime. If you're interested in a doublestack C, which definitely does seem to be a special gun, waiting probably wouldn't be a good idea.

Unfortunately there goes the best out of the box pistol made.

I've been holding off but I guess I might have to finally pull the trigger on one.

Also, is the difference between the stainless and DLC barrels large enough to hold off until I can find a DLC? Or just get what's available?

With lesser-grade guns, DLC gives more advantages, that aren't as much of an issue with a really reliable, well-built design. Especially if it's not going to get 6-figure round counts. DLC drops the coefficient of friction quite a bit over most other coatings and bare steels, and is far harder and more durable than most, making it a great combo in guns. Slick, and hard-wearing.

In something like traditional 1911s, suppressed ARs, etc, it gives a reliability advantage, especially when they're not properly lubricated with a good wet lube. All told, DLC or nitriding are my preferences for coatings/treatments. But in this case, it's like DLC'ing a stainless Glock barrel - just not a big enough difference to matter for most people, in most contexts. Definitely not enough to make a difference in whether or not to get one while you can.

Figured this was in the cards as soon as the HD was announced. I wonder how long they'll actually support the mags?
