Have you ever run the 9505?

I'm not sure I've "run" one very much, but yes, I think I've probably used all of the various generations of Iridium at some time or another, although I've logged by far the most hours on the 9555 series. Are you using the 9505 or the 9505A? I seem to see more of the A series in service, and I know we have one still operational in our small inventory. Other than the 9505A being a bit bulkier and slightly less intuitive to use, I don't recall noticing any serious difference in call quality between the older and newer phones. They all suck to some degree. :)

Biggest issue I've had with the 9555 was a firmware glitch last year that required a wipe and reflash at the dealer. Phone would flip back and forth between showing 5 bars and 0 bars about every 30 seconds and I couldn't make a call. Pulling the battery for a hard reboot got it to work just long enough to call the float plane, and then it was back to being flaky. That was annoying.

As a side note, for long term base camps the Iridium docking stations for the 9555 are great (albeit, not cheap). They can run off 12V or 120V and really clean up call quality.

Yep, the 9505A is the model I was asking you about "running".

My bad for using the term "run", I guess that would be the military in me as that is a general term for using something.

I'm heading out to "run" my camera now:)

Thanks for the info

Not knocking the "run" thing at all. I have just never personally owned or been issued a 9505A. Borrowed them on a number of occasions for various reasons, so I have a fair amount of time using one, but to me that doesn't qualify as actually "running" one I guess. Same with the 9575 and the older 9500. My issued 9555 on the other hand has been in the field several hundred days. I've about run that one to death.

Snapped the top part of my antenna off this year on the 9555 and I didn't have the external along, that was fun. It works fine with the external, but seems awfully pricy to replace the back part of the phone to get a regular antenna back...
