If you need to do it or just want to, go ahead. Even though I hunt in wilderness exclusively, I’m used to hearing gunshots and so are the deer. Elk in that area seem more than a little touchy about it.

Sometimes animals will just stand there at the sound of a shot. Sometimes they will shag ass. Ive seen both and you can’t depend on one or the other. Once fired four shots at a muley buck at around 200 yds. Him and his buddy just stood and stared until my partner spoke. That sent them packing. Another time my buddy fired one shot down into a bowl at a buck, and 7 bucks jumped up and started running all over the mointain side, before getting organized into a line and scooting down a ridge.

Rarely. Only if one of us takes a tumble in the hills with our rifle, or there’s a fairly serious rodeo. It wasn’t always the case. But now our rifle systems are set up with durability/reliability as top priority, so travel or minor bumps/drops aren’t a concern.
