We all do! My argument was against the “points are better than random draw”. I’d take New Mexicos system over the disaster in Colorado any day!!
I agree and disagree. I think if Colorado went to draw only for all units preference points would be a lot more beneficial.

I’m assuming you mean a bonus point? I wouldn’t be opposed to a SLIGHTLY weighted bonus point, but a preference point would be super beneficial if everyone was on a random and you somehow had a preference point! 😂

Comparing Colorado and New Mexico and saying “you can’t reliably get a tag in New Mexico because it’s a random draw” isn’t fair. Colorado has way more opportunity than New Mexico.
And yet even with all that opportunity, lots of folks still complain about being able to get an elk tag here. "But I want unit 10 first rifle and have no chance at all with zero points. I should have the same opportunity as the guy with 32 points". SMH

Not sure why you're being sarcastic here.

It actually is a good idea. Better for both residents and Non residents. Those that want to hire an outfitter can do so after the tag is drawn.
It's only a good idea for the non-res that don't want to participate in the outfitter pool. If you are a non-res willing to pay for an outfitter you certainly don't want things to change. I agree though, I'd like to see the outfitter pool go away but as I said before it likely isn't.

You don’t want a point system in New Mexico. There are not enough tags to make it work.

I want a hybrid point system based on what UT does, except the only way to get a point is to apply. No buying just points. No accumulating 25 or 30 points. No tags automatically going to max point holders.

Every year you don't draw you get one point. The next year, your application and point gives you two opportunities to get a random number assigned. You get the better of the two numbers. This is repeated every year you don't draw until you reach 5 points and then you start over at 0. Draw is 100% random.

The year you do draw, you sit out the following year for that species only, no cap on how many species you can draw in one year. If you draw everything you apply for (which does happen from time to time), then you don't get to apply in NM for anything the next year.

To these guys, I say pony up for a landowner tag and forget the draw altogether.
Never going to happen. We can dream all we want but those guys still want a shot at a prime unit and the outfitter’s want them to draw those tags. You can bet lots of those guys when they don’t draw are buying landowner tags.

Odds will get worse for non-guided non-residents too. Not being sarcastic but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize this. If nonresidents go from 16% to 10% of tags odds will be worse for all.

I see what you're saying. 90/10 may not be the best answer. A true 84/16 split would be better, but the current NR pool is not truly 16% if the tags aren't available to everyone.

The outfitter pool is exclusive and needs to be removed.

Yeah good idea screw everyone’s draw odds worse than they already are so you don’t feel like you’re not “exclusive”

I agreed with you. A true 84/16 would be nice. I'm not sure how that further screws everyone's draw odds. Enlighten me.
