New Kifaru Bags?

The Tahr looks awesome. Very slick way of using the bag without a lid and I like the fact that you can run belt pouches up the sides.

I guess I'm failing to see what these bags provide that the current line doesn't.

I dont see the appeal of these bags either. Sure they are lighter but to get a couple pockets similar to the DT1 or DT2 you have to add some weight back in. And with no bottom zip I have to pull everything out to get to my sleep system or whatever is in the bottom of the bag.

I think the appeal is a combination of price point, weight, and carrying capacity. For just about $500, you can get the new ultralight frame with the argali, which together weigh just over 4lbs and give you 7000 cubic inches of storage capacity. Now that's not cheap but it's on par with the kuiu prices and it beats hands down the weight and $700+ cost I spent on a bt1 a few years ago. For that price you could add a bunch of pockets or the smallest pack (the marker? crayon?) and with the argali (arugula?) have a complete system. And it appeals to the ultralight minimalist fad that dominates the market. With kuiu and now mystery ranch outsourcing their production, this line up seems to me to be a smart business strategy: keeping it American but giving the Asian manufacturers a run for their money. My sense is that this will replace not the timberlines and other built-out packs but the highcamp.

The appeal for me is the modularity to really run whatever pockets you want (especially with this new spotting scope pocket) like you had PALs webbing, but at the very low weight penalty.

The lidless approach seems much better than the highcamp too.

Really looking forward to this on my 22" frame.

good to see kifaru come full circle back to the simplicity of a 'GEN III longhunter'.

i wanted to buy a longhunter originally but they were phased out and i had to get a T2 which i've since modified to be more like a longhunter. i cut the meat shelf and side pockets off. added pals webbing between the side compression straps to allow pocket attachment and made 2 'spotting scope' pockets with the material from the meat shelf and old side pockets.
