Yes this is the stock that came with the rifle and yes it is the Stock'y carbon fiber. I like the pain job a lot better than the Kryptek style. Has a black web on top plus a soft touch/matte finish which gives it decent grip.

Wanted to let those who are interested know there is a "special edition" of this rifle is available. It is a Howa Super Lite from Davidson's/Gallery of Guns which comes in a burnt bronze cerokote and comes with a matching radial muzzle break. Many sporting good stores and gun shops have an affiliations with Davidsons/Gallery of Guns as a distributor. In my opinion it is a handsome little rifle. Cost was just over $1000 which is about $150 more than you can find the standard version online. Stock is nice, barrel channel is aligned, feeds and extracts perfectly and weighed 4lbs 10oz without the included pic rail in 6.5 CM. Bottom "metal" is plastic which I can live with for now, I'm sure aftermarket options will become available. I'll plan to provide a range report after I do some load development.

Mine has the Leupold 2.5x8x36, sweet handling set up, 5# 7.5 oz rifle and scope in .308.

How is the recoil? Did you add a brake? I know 308 isn't punchy but that's an incredibly light gun. I am looking at an identical setup but in 6.5creed

Recoil isn't bad at all, but a suppressor does reduce it quite a bit. I don't like to shoot with brakes, so no, it doesn't have a brake.

Bought one for my son since we were going to be schlepping up steep stuff. After sight-in was achieved... at least twice my son was able to hit the bulleyes directly (w Federal loadings of 130gr Barnes TSX's), once I corrected some of his technique/holding style. SO nice and light!

Only thing about it at all, that irks me, is that when working the bolt it's not quiet.. you hear the machining groove marks of the bolt or the chamber "Zip!" against each other.

Other than that little OCD irksome thing... it's bichun!

These don't work with any ol howa 1550 stock do they? I think the superlights have a different action than the mini and regular 1500 so I don't think it will work but just want to check

It's such a sweetheart to carry around.

MAN!!.. You are NOT lying!

I asked my son if I could take his Howa UltraLite the last outing I had my deer season. Gotta be over a coupled pounds difference to my Savage Trophy Hunter, with the nice big and bright Burris Veracity 3-15x50mm on it! Not changing it though I love that thing and it's FFP too!

For his rifle, since the goal was keeping light weight for climbing those God Awful buckthorn covered slopes... for his I just went with a Burris FullField II 3-9x40mm. So saved a buncha weight in that regard too.

A little lapping compound and about 400 bolt strokes will take care of that "zip".

Thank you! Ugh... it OCD bugs me.

You don't know til you ask, so here goes... is lapping compound available in big box hardware stores? Or is it more like an order it from Natchez Shooting Supplies or some such outfit, kinda thing?

BTW, just looked at my Superlite, and haven't done anything to it and it is pretty "zippy".

I guess only reason I mind it being that way is because there have been a few times where the ability to quietly eject a cartridge and rack in a new one, has allowed me to take game where I missed because I forgot that at 25yds, you need to aim about an inch below crosshairs, since the bullets path is still rising from 1.5 inches underneath the scopes line of sight.

So when I heard the "zip" I cringed, imagining the few critters that would have heard that and bolted at times in the past.

However... the rifle is just so beautifully light to carry though! So for me that outweighs it.

So I'll try to order some lapping compound this weekend to work the action in I guess. So thanks for that.
