New Durston X-Dome for Alaska hunts??

Well I have no experience with either so far, so I wouldn’t put much weight to any of my ramblings yet. @6.5x284 latest experience is not confidence inspiring in the least.

I had the latest version of the Mountain Star w/Carbon poles snap a couple years ago in moderate wind, right where the pole comes out of the exposed sleeve and begins to get clipped.

The Unna is widely regarded as a very strong tent, more so than the Niak, in the Hilleberg line. I’m a little more interested in a 1p ArcDome Ultra at this point (Similar design as Unna), as “appears” to have had better performance thus far on the various UK YouTube camper/blogger channels. They may be a bit pedantic, but they do put their tents in some pretty harsh conditions in Snowdonia and the Peak District over there.

I’m in your camp. Thinking the 1p ArcDome might be my new go to shelter if it pans out. I like the design and materials. Just hoping the application is good. I would say so far the only thing I don’t love is the size/shape of the vestibule. But I think in the end that will be a small annoyance if everything else is good.

I splurged a while back on a Samaya 2.0 after touring their factory in France. Good group and they put a lot of R&D into it. I haven’t really put it through the wringer yet but I intend to in 2025. Reviews look good.

FWIW, I’ve used a Hilleberg Soulo, Hilleberg Akto, MLD Cuben Duomid, Golite Shangri-La, Tarptent Moment, SG Skyscraper, and a smattering of BA and MSR three season tents. The Samaya is supposed to be a breathable single skin with Cuben in certain areas. Pole sleeves are on the outside for a dry pitch. Guy lines wrap around the poles. I do almost all my hunting and hiking solo so pitching in high wind with the MLD and inner-outer tents can be an issue.

Let us know what you think. I always see that one advertised but am very nervous of anything advertised on social media feeds where I always see it! Keep us posted! Very curious on the amount of condensation. We’ve used many of the same tents so it’ll be a great reference point.

I will say I met the guys behind the design in France and they really get after it. There are some favorable reviews on gear lab and YouTube (from Europe and UK) so that pushed me over the edge.

I’ve also been interested in the Samaya tents. You should take some pics when you have it set up showing vestibule size with a pack in it. Interested in your thoughts going forward. Should do a separate thread too.

FWIW I swapped out my Niak for an Unna after some nasty winds flattened my Niak in the Wrangells this year. The Unna has been much more stormworthy in my limited experience with it.
