I’m in your camp. Thinking the 1p ArcDome might be my new go to shelter if it pans out. I like the design and materials. Just hoping the application is good. I would say so far the only thing I don’t love is the size/shape of the vestibule. But I think in the end that will be a small annoyance if everything else is good.
I’ve also been interested in the Samaya tents. You should take some pics when you have it set up showing vestibule size with a pack in it. Interested in your thoughts going forward. Should do a separate thread too.
FWIW I swapped out my Niak for an Unna after some nasty winds flattened my Niak in the Wrangells this year. The Unna has been much more stormworthy in my limited experience with it.
Nothing much more for me. I bought one on three order that is supposed to ship in April. I guess the only thing that bad is I made sure to buy a second set of their tent stakes. And I’ll be grabbing some cordage so that I have enough to do a guylines. Having test at all little concern that durability in the Alpine weather love every possible stake and guy that I could use
The solid does sound nice to stay warmer and eliminate wind. but for me i just ordered it with the mesh figuring it must be the lightest option. Ive been running tipis and even run all my other tents without an interior tent for the last 5 years. So i figure Im not really relying on the inner tent for any warmth. I just need it to keep me dry since the outter tent doesnt go all the way to the ground. I may even run this durston outter tent with my Borah bivy as I have been with my tipis and hilleberg tents. That system makes me pretty versatile in order to spike out leaving the tent there and bring my bivy/tarp in case I need to stay overnight away from camp/ backup shelter
I like the idea of using the shell and a bivy/tarp set up.
My only fear with running the Durston floorless will be wind and rain coming under just a little bit. Thats why Ive only ran red label hillebergs instead of their yellow label. But there are lots of advantages I find to having no interior tent. Lol, like not needing to go out of the tent in the middle of the night to take a leak. Or carry a piss bottle (not that I ever have)
definitely true. I hadnt looked up the weight difference before my purchase. I dont even think they were offering the solid inner tent as an option at the time. But another aspect ive been looking at for a lot of my gear is if I can make it take up less volume in my pack. I dont know how much more compressible the mesh may or may not be. Just food for thought on choosing between the two. I also try not to need the meat shelf on my backpack. Id rather put the animal parts in the backpack if I can help it. Just seems to strap in better and carry better in my opinion
