New developments coming this summer

I've been wearing the pants to work a good bit and got them out this weekend for about 3 days (evening, full day, morning) and 10 miles (mostly on trail) with the off-trail stuff being mostly alpine and a little blowdown. Didn't really beat them up much.

I will say my (3) pairs of FL Corrugate pants and (2) pairs of Kuiu Tiburons have pilling from a lot of use, but it's not a durability concern as far as I can tell. One tear in a pair of Tiburons from snagging blowdown that tenacious tape has held together fine. The stretch in the Corrugates has allowed them to absorb the same contact and resist tearing. So if they start pilling I won't be terribly concerned and with similar/more stretch compared to the Corrugates I imagine they'll absorb potential snags similarly.

They are definitely a "hot weather" pant for me. It was overcast, slightly breezy and in the 60's and I had to put the puffy pants on while static. Hiked in them while it was in the 50'-60's and they were great for activity in those temps. Kinda doubt they'll make the trip to MT in November though.

Very happy with the design. Circumference around the boot/calves is the best of any pant I own with plenty of room in the thighs/rear still. Stretch was perfect for making some big step ups on big rocks. I'm going to keep using this pair, but early indication is I'll buy a pair in each color.

I think the pants fit great and I’ll take the trade off in some of the durability for the fit. I also think they can work really well with a base layer bottom, which will extend their use. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Kuiu Kutana’s, the fabric is durable and light. However, the Kutana’s don’t have the range of motion and fit these OV Altura’s do. I’ll take that trade off for most reasons. The Kutana’s are very size-specific - and take a lot of trying on to find the right size, on a longer hunt, you have to have a belt because of the weight loss. That’s where the built-in belt on these Altura’s shine. The pockets are perfect. They dry fast. And, I can wear them around town - and honestly want to because of the fit and weight.

I think you just can’t expect these pants to cover every use case possible—I know there’s limitations and have other options based on the trip. If I was crawling a lot, busting a lot of brush, etc, I would probably just keep that in mind. They didn’t put knee pad pockets in them for a reason—there’s better options out there. They didn’t’ put a heavier woven fabric for a reason—they wanted them light and versatile for layering.

I agree with what you said, if they hadn’t been promoted as being durable and able to take a beating. This is my opinion and how I interpreted the hype, though. So others have different thoughts.

After 80 miles in a saddle, the piling on the backside of the pants is pretty rough, even with 20 or so of those miles with rain gear on the outside of the pants. Each pant got approximately 40 miles as I alternated them during my hunt. Aside from the piling, and lack of a 30/34 size option. I love the pants.

My buddy’s katana’s didn’t wear remotely as bad and he wore his for 60 miles of use on one pair, but a 30/34 in those fit me like damn yoga pants in the thigh. Perfect everywhere else, but the thighs are crazy tight.IMG_0865.jpeg

Thanks to those of you sharing your feedback. It matters and it weighs into future decisions. My interest is in receiving feedback, bad or good, and evaluating all of it to influence design decisions. For those of you that are unhappy with pilling or snagging , I'd really appreciate if you could email me with pictures and details of what's going on. I'd like to understand the extent of it and the context.

This is how you run a business. No deflection, arguing, or BS. “Here’s my email.”

I have to say, I’m not as concerned about getting a human on the phone IF there is a publicly available email AND emails are replied to promptly. Folks that don’t run businesses don’t understand how expensive it is to keep employees on the phone all day.

Companies that don’t post any contact info whatsoever are showing their true colors.

Agreed. I sent him pics of my piling from riding a horse yesterday. Interested to hear the response.

Whats everyone wearing under their fleece... merino or synthetic baselayer?

I wore a merino layer under the hoodie. It performed well while moving in mild 40-50 degree temperatures, had to add a puffy when sitting.

The hoodie is solid in my book. I like it. I’m curious for reviews on the puffy.
